There is a ton of Canadian talent that is barely Canadian. Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Jeff Martin, etc etc that a ton of people do or don't count. To each their own.
Good call on the Hip - there's rightfully a ton of talent that comes to mind right now, hopefully i'll remember it when i'm at home by my comp and can type up a proper post.
I apologise to the world for Nickelback.
Edit : dammit, didn't see the date stamp - that's entertaining. Stop bumping old topics while i'm on my blackberry!
Seriously tho- Nickelback sucks. First album was okay at the time, but it just went downhill from there.

Bryan Addams most certainly does count. Hes right up there with maple syrup and hockey as the best things to come out of Canada.
I'll stick with the going by state motif, too many to list from the entire U.S.
Lets break down by genre (these are the bigger names of course)
Rock/Punk/Blues:
Flaming Lips
Hinder
All American Rejects
Carolines Spine (Amazing)
For Love Not Lisa
The Nixons
Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains (he did a solo album so he counts)
N.O.T.A
Wayman Tisdale
J.J. Cale
Leon Russell
Pillar
David Cook
Then theres the giant country list. Again, just the bigger names.
Garth Brooks
Toby Keith
Carrie Underwood
Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys
Gene Autry
Woody Guthrie
Reba McEntire
Merle Haggard
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Blake Shelton
Restless Heart
Jason Boland and the Stragglers (great Red Dirt music)
And last but certainly not least....
Hanson
Color Me Badd
Thats right, Hanson. You're welcome world.
There are really soooo many great bands/solo artists just in my area it would take forever to list them all. It also all depends on what genre you prefer. Heres some of my favs.
Aranda
Downcast
El Paso Hot Button
First Lady Assassins
Head Over Hills
My Solstice
Pat Green
Stoney LaRue
Violence to Vegas
Theres actually a real huge Indie Rock scene starting to develop, not a big fan of it myself, but some of the bands are starting to get some national recognition. Radio Radio being one of the bigger bands.

Canadians also invented:
* Sonar
* TV
* the pacemaker
* the zipper
* basketball
* Java
And a bunch of other stuff. I'm tired of ******* hockey dammit- our national sport is actually Lacrosse! Maple syrup is also cultivated in the states and Asia! Jeebus!
