Doctor Who - Series 4

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Well this series they've made a point of saying that Donna is somehow different/special. Seems to me her fate was planned all along.

The Osterhagen key, the necklace, were just red herrings in the end. It mainly helped Davros' point about the Doctor using humans as weapons.

Weapons, pointless, no one to kill etc... it gos on, and on...
The Daleks have always been portrayed as seeing themselves as the supreme race with a desire to exterminate anything unlike them. Of course its pointless, but this **** happens in the real world too! Except without the sink plungers.

Yeah it wasn't perfect, and it was a bit cheesy, but just fun fun fun television.

all true, im not going to say i didnt enjoy it, because I did, and the bit with Donna at the end was really moving to be honest, one of the better bits of DrW ive seen in a while.

Perhaps because ive always wanted to see another world, or experience space travel that having them thoughts taken away from you seems so painfull. I guess thats why i watch sci-fi.

Its tougne and cheek, its cheesy but its good. so, is there any word on who the next sidekick will be?

I'm thinking there will be one off companions each episode in the five specials between now and season 5. Looks like xmas will bring us David Morrissey and Dervla Kirwan.

Any ideas on when those other four specials will be broadcast next year?

I'm thinking Easter, May Day, August Bank Holiday and Christmas.

Wonder when they'll resolve last year's ending with the woman's hand retrieving the Master's ring. Thought it was Donna, due to that overly large thing she had on her hand, for a few minutes, until I could tell it was just a shaped rock and not the Seal of Rassilon.

I've watched it twice now. Generally i loved it - stronger ending that seasons 1 & 3 and on a par with Doomsday i thought - mainly in terms of the impact on the characters involved - this was Donna's Doomsday i guess.

I actually thought in terms of plot holes and contrivences they actually did a pretty good job of at the very least offering a throwaway line for explaining most things - like the new Doctor mentioning maintaining the atmos shell before the Tardis dragged earth home. That said some of them i didn't catch until rewatching.

The 2 Doctors thing.... i expected it to annoy me but in fact i thought it was very well handled and used as a good insight into the Doc's character. Rose's dilemma was pretty interesting. Also Jack's line about it was comedy gold.

Also worth noting i think was Mickey's heroic bow from the alternate universe to leave Rose with the human Doctor - nicely underplayed but a dignified departure for a charachter often used for cheap laughs.

The only thing i haven't really been able to explain to msyelf is why Delek Caan - having realised the Dalek's were a right bunch of Daily Mail readers - still went ahead and rescued Davros?

Bernad Cribbins was phenominal. He really bought home how awful Donna's fate was. I especially felt for her when she realised a second before it happened what the Doctor would do - very well acted. I do kind of hope we get some future nod to a better life for Donna where she realises her potential in some way.

Finally, i thought the contrast between the full Tardis and the Doctor on his own at the end, sopping from the rain, was immense.

I've watched it twice now. Generally i loved it.
