This has been the worst day of my life.

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I'm going to put my two cents in though the time may have passed...

I got married young in a very religious culture and although I'm not exactly thrilled by a lot of it, I am still trying to find out if there's a place for me in Mormonism. Also, I married a girl, who, though she's an obvious raging feminist, (which I find sexy) wants nothing more than to be a housewife and mommy. Though she's a hell of a designer and is making some nice money on the side from it.

One thing we did was combine bank accounts. It means that money and purchasing are shared responsibilities and that we had to figure out how to be compatible on money early on. I recommend this. Most marriages in our lovely First World fight over money more than anything else. I think it helps to be willing to pool your resources.

Of course, we make about fifteen hundred bucks a month between the two of us, so it's not like we could afford to go separate.

Most of my friends would KILL to be this friend of yours right now - this thing shouldn't even make your list. Well, so long as he's single.

However, as for the rest of them, I can totally understand how straining this must be. Especially if the behaviour of your friends is what's responsible for the strain with your significant other. The amount of times I've had to step in to uphold a friend's honour when he's been about to make a stupid drunken mistake he'd regret for the rest of his life, and the amount of times I've regretted NOT stepping in when I should... I've got friends over there who ALWAYS feel like they're walking on eggs, particularly with their wives' families, as regards their behaviour and that of friends who come to stay.

Success.

I tried to stop a co-worker from making an ass of himself and passing out on the street and failed miserably.

Said co-worker went out and screwed somebody he shouldn't have.
Don't worry about it; their choice.

Best of luck with the other half.
