Ashes to Ashes series 1 (spoilers)

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Ashes to Ashes series 1 (spoilers)

Post by spiderfrommars » Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:10 pm

Anyone else been watching this?

Spoilers...

Stunning last episode. I feel so stupid that I never recognised it was Alex's Dad under that clown make up the whole time.

Never as good as Life on Mars, but still really fun telly.

Only had 3 gripes with this series:

1) Chris' character became a little too stupid. Did he learn nothing from Sam?

2) Hardly any mentions of Sam Tyler. Would've been nice to give him more than a brief cursory mention in the first episode.

3) 'Ashes to Ashes' the song - they didn't play it enough! But then I would say that.

Haven't missed a single second of it. ;)

To be fair, though, Alex's Dad never really had enough screen time through the series for that connection to be made. Probably purposeful on the scripts' part.

Hmm, given that there'll be a second series next year, who will be her 'companion'? Not the clown, surely. Shaw Taylor, perhaps? Keep 'Em Peeled!

'Ashes to Ashes' the song - they didn't play it enough!
I think it had about as much airtime as 'Life on Mars' did in Life on Mars, tbh.

Bloody luv'ed this show. Especially season 1 was brilliant. Season 2, which I just watched the finale of, had it's ups and downs, but the end was truly clever. ( I was actually a wee bit shocked, tell you the truth.. Poor Gene.)

Is it over now tho? Or is it going for a third season? I was rather WTF-ed there.

I'm hopin' for it. :)

Not sure what all the hate online for it was, with the first few eps tho? Aye, it's not Mars, but who actually expected that? Still bloody good telly. If this was produced in Sweden, I would pay me bloody telly-license. Seriously.

Anybody else catched the finale of season 2, on Monday then?

Last night's was interesting, but then again, last week's was also interesting for the same reasons. And once again, it was all neatly tied back in to Life on Mars.

There will be a third (and last) season.

Didn't think it was as good as the first season but preferred the darker subject matter. None of it makes the slightest bit of sense tho (Summers killing Summers, etc.) Alex hasn't referred to anyone as psychological constructs this season.... are we to believe they're real now?

What really bugs me is... where are all the cars? I remember 1982. Cars were everywhere, but all we ever get in the show is the Quattro driving through a ghost town.

I've finally found the time to finish season 1. I sure as hell wasn't expecting her dad to be a mass murdering psychopath. I really thought it would be Evan, he just came over as really sinister and creepy (albeit unintentionally to a certain extent, he didn't know he was hitting on someone he was going raise as a daughter).

Only real flaw with the show it it's obviously harder to find places in London with no post 80's architecture than it was to find places that looked like the 70's in Manchester, in season 1 they keep driving down the same two streets over and over and over again...
