If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

"Dual use cap, flip up or twist off"...
Post
by saysadie » Mon Jul 26, 2004 7:13 pm
I noticed this written on my toothpaste this morn. Up until now I'd not noticed it.
First off, having this written on anything seems a little... off. I mean, a cap on anything had better be able to twist off, why make it seem like it's an option just included in?
Second... Given the option, who would use the twist-off "function" over the flip-top?
Poll time...

But why?
why? why twist off when there's flip top? flip top-simple. Flip... top. When done, flip top... down.
And comps, if you've tampered with that poll I'll... um... Express my displeasure in text! Using cuss words, no less!

I totally voted twist off. Although I must admit what in the heck is the dead end option in the poll?

You have no idea how thankful I am that that picture is of a finger and not...something else.

I don't get it?
As far as I was aware, the original tops for toothpaste tubes were twist-offs. Then some bright spark invented the flip-top cap, but in order to fit it to the tube, they had to make it twist-off.

Flip top. Easier to clean under the tap so it doesn't get all mussed up.

Yes! But why make it sound as if the twist off "feature" is an option?
I like the way it's worded on the tube mostly. I thank the toothpaste company for letting me know I have the choice.

Same here. But not when I'm going to
use the toothpaste...
I probably should have been more specific, but I tend to garble things anyway. I meant in terms of use, not maintenance.

Probably so people who 'discover' it don't think they've broken it?

Heh, ok, just checking.
In all actuallity, I don't really mind which kind my toothpaste container has, as long as I like the toothpaste itself. It's not what's outside, but inside that counts

I can't see how someone would think they've broken their tube of toothpaste if they twisted the top off... it twists back on just as easily after all.
And Magna, as long as what's in the tube isn't Wintermint-flavoured, I'm not too fussed about it either.
