From the front cover of today's Metro:

"A police leader has called for black officers to be fast-tracked into top jobs, even if they lack the right qualifications. Keith Jarrett said more non-white officers should be promoted because ethnic minority communities wanted the police to 'look like them'...He claimed white officers were already being promoted higher than their qualifications merited."

Leaving the race issue aside for a minute, what exactly does qualify police officers for "top jobs"? Looks? Funny handshakes? It doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the force, does it?

I suppose it can't hurt - after all the only difference between an unqualified white policeman and an unqualified black policeman is aethetics...

Nobody should be promoted unless they possess qualities worthy of promotion

Though I appreciate such reasoning would destroy not only most of our national services, institutions and businesses... I'm such a communist
