So here's a thing...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

So here's a thing...

Post by Best First » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:05 am

That i just want to post about

This last 2 weeks i have been working in Manchester, basically looking at a project we have going and seeing what we can reuse for other clients.

Great thing is my best mate happens to be on this project, so getting to know the people there is pretty easy, and its all good.

Next to him is this American girl who i am pretty soon getting on like a house on fire with, albeit in a slightly punch each other on the arm in the playground way - but basically there is some sparkage (IMO).

So last week there is a work event at this project, and i am sat next to this girl, then dancing with this girl, then having mildly suggestive chat wih this girl, knowing that i am leaving at he end of the week...

...and then as the night goes on, she starts blowing a bit hot and cold.

and then one of her collegues throws herself at me.

And i recipricate, cos iam drunk and male and probably a bit put out.

And the next day girl a) is talking to me but not really talking to me.

And i have not, i don't think, done anthing wrong, because 1) i have no commitments to girl a) and 2) i made my attraction to her clear and she played it a bit too coy...

...but i still feel like a total dick.

And would rather i was still friends with girl a) and had not just got another notch on the bed post. Basically i would rather nothing had happened and we were still cool.

And the thing is, i will probably never see girl a) again, she is of back to the US pretty soon, i am not working in Manchester anymore and therefore it was never going to go anywhere.

But i am still bothered by the whole thing. Cos i really liked her, and i acted like a dick, even if she acted like a bit of a dick too.

What the [composite word including 'f*ck'], eh?

You ARE a dick. :afro: :p

Ok, ok. :D {runs backwards with hands up}

My take on it?

Sounds to me like she might have had a similar thing going with the bloke whom you catched a big-arse chip on the shoulder from. And a) therefore led to b) , maybe she likes to tease and such, with lads, but realized that it got a bit too far, with the blokes getting into a fight about her, and now she's just thinking: "f*ck it. I don't have time for a fling like this, I'm going home anyway."

Yeah, girl wanted to play coy a bit too much.

Thing is, in her perfect mind's eye, you two would have just smoldered for each other, had the flirtation, and then you would have had to go your two seperate ways, the unrequited attraction still sweet on her lips. That, sadly, is romantic to a lot of women.

But you had to go and ruin it by putting getting your rocks off in front of fufilling her storybook time overseas. So now her fantasy scenario is shattered, but like you said, she has no real basis for being mad at you, so she's just "meh" towards you.

So basically, yeah, you feel bad, but there was no real emotional investment, and the development of any kind of relationship was truncated by her inability to take chronological limits into consideration.

Sucks, though, don't it? I remember having "right-girl-wrong-time-itis" for at least a year before I went off to be a missionary. They were always leaving.

Did Predabot read a different post? What 'bloke'?

Anyway, i think this is one of the greatest drunk posts of all time. Yay me.

Not that it was not sincere.

I think the main thing is that i am also of a bit of a romantic bent by and large and i know i have acted contrary to that and that probably also means i have invested a bit too much in a situation that was never going to go anywhere.

Ah well.

Funny isn't it, a quick post from Predabot and suddenly death loses it's sting?

Sounds like just a tricky situation boss. TBH it doesn't sound like you handled it particularly badly at all so I wouldn't let it gnaw at you too much :)

Besters, i wouldn't beat yourself up about it too much, it doesn't sound like you handled things too badly, it's just one of those things... it sucks at the time, but later you'll look back and go, "bah, what was i feeling ****** about?"

If global warming leads to copious amounts of excellent promiscious sex, then bring it on, I say.

OOPS! :bf: I thought the above said "HIMself at me". It did not...

So basically, you feel bad 'cause you went and snogged this other girl while still having this flirt-thing going on with this Yankee-girl, even tho you both knew it'd never lead to anything?

Well, 'dat be actually trickier. Eh, I dunno', dun' seems like any big harm done.

You do realise there are women on this forum, right?

Best First: we all do things that we regret. Especially when drunk. Is there any way to apologise to Girl A (if you still want to be friends)? Send her a silly card or something? Take her out for coffee? Friendship are worth the effort.

If it's any consolation I thought it was pretty offensive too. Best thing is to ignore him.

and it doesn't make any sense in relation to anything else in the topic. Pointless and offensive. Succinct i guess.

Eline, i was thinking about sending an email apology to a private mail address (doing it over work email not the best idea i think), but i wasn't sure i was perhaps making more of it than i should, given its basically like saying "hey, in my head you must care about what happened last week".

I am not on the same project site anymore (hence probably never see her again) otherwise it would be easier to address.

i think i really just want to apologise for the sake of apologising, as i acted like a prick.

It's a bit tricky, that's true. But just a brief email wouldn't hurt. You never know if you might see her again for other projects.

Why are these things always so difficult?

Or maybe just drop her a line, saying how you enjoyed working with her and look forward to the possibility of doing so again in the future and if either of you are ever in the same town to maybe meet up, blah blah blah? Like Eline said though, keep it brief, don't go overboard on it.

You know, basically open communications with her, but basically don't talk about the incident in question. Judge her mood from her reaction to that.

Sometimes, it's best to just leave things in the past and keep on moving forward!
