Back in the USA

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Back in the USA

It's been 9 months since I moved to Japan, so I figured I'd use the school vacation to visit friends and relatives in the US.

The flight was terrible. It was the opposite of the flight to Japan. I booked months in advance and everything went to hell at the last minute. My schedule was simple. Fukuoka to Narita (Tokyo) then Narita to Chicago. When I got to Tokyo, they announced that the flight to Chicago was cancelled. Crap. So they put me on another flight. This one was not direct though. The new schedule was Tokyo to Canada, Canada to Seattle, then Seattle to Chicago. UNFORTUNATELY, the flight to Canada was late, so I didn't catch the connecting flight to Seattle. I got bumped around from airline to airline until I was finally able to get a flight from Canada to Chicago...but not for another 8 hours. About 10 minutes before landing, Chicago (and Illinois in general) got whacked with a major storm that shook the plane up something fierce. But now I'm back in the States for a 4 week holiday.

I've been back for about 24 hours and it's been like I hit a time-warp. I gained 14 hours with the time difference, but it feels like I've gone back in time! Chicago feels like the bloody Dark Ages compared to Fukuoka, Japan. There are cars that look like they've been through a war, trash on the streets, and I can't use my cell phone to buy drinks from vending machines.

I'm thrilled to be able to see my family and friends again, but I'm already counting the days until I'm back in Japan.

On the plus side, I finally get to the see the Transformers movie tonight! I could have seen it as soon as I got back to my parent's place, though. They bought a bootleg copy at a fleamarket and had it waiting for me!

Let us know what you think about the Movie. :D

Also, I really feel you should try and visit Europe some, come next holliday. ( hint*sweden is nice*hint) It's kind of just as dirty as the US, but it's got a different rustique charm of it's own.
