I thought the news on TV here said it was a typhoon rather than a quake. I better doublecheck.

There was actually a typhoon too, if I'm not mistaken? I did see something about that too.

We had a typhoon, a decent sized earthquake, a bunch of aftershocks, and then a bigger earthquake. Somewhere in there, a nuclear power plant got pretty messed up.
I'm fine. Everyone I know is fine. Thanks for asking. We didn't even feel the quakes here in Fukuoka, they were in the Northern part of Japan. I had never experienced an earthquake until I came to Japan. All in all, I don't think they're that big a deal. Stuff shakes, then it's over. Pretty much everything is built to withstand earthquakes reasonably well, so there's rarely any real cause for concern. I went over to a friend's place, rented a couple of movies, and just hung out for the long weekend.

How bad was the typhoon in kyushu? I heard there was some structural damage. It wasn't so severe in tokyo. The earthquake was probably the nastiest I've felt though. Usually they don't bother me, but this one was a bit uncomfortable. Tokyo's nowhere near the damage zone of course.

As luck would have it, we got the worst of the typhoon during the Yamakasa festival at around 5am on Sunday. So in the middle of the typhoon, thousands of half naked men were running around Nakasu Kawabata carrying shrines that weighed a couple of tons each. All in all, it wasn't too bad. Minor damage, but nothing really major.
I've been in a couple of quakes, and I don't find them to be all that scary.
Thanks again for the concern.

Truth be told, I like the quakes usually, but yesterday was different. Not scary level, but a bit worrying.

Good to hear Smooth.
I would celebrate getting out of this, by buying a new hat. Something perticularly japanese in style.
Seems like the Japanese do have a relaxed attitude towards the powers of nature, cool.

Good to hear you're both okay. Stay that way!
I was in the California Northridge Quake of '94. I was sleeping over at my friend's house and everything started shaking so I jumped on him in panic. There were so many scares in California growing up that every time a quake hit, we would yell, "Big One!" and visions of LA falling into the ocean would fill everyone's heads. By that time, I was usually under something and it had stopped.
I think Seattle is in more trouble geologically than California was. Mt. Rainier is one hundred years overdue for an eruption. From what I know about Japan, it's even more unstable than the Northwest. Typhoons, volcanoes, earthquakes... oh my!

I read this:

Immediately saw this:
And then imagined your friend thinking this:
Now, who's been dirtying up my mind?

Yes, but it's not very japanese, is it? well, I dunno I suppose, since I dun' know a thing' 'bout japanese fashion anyway.
But isn't that your OLD hat? Can't you own more than one?
If I wus' in Japan I'd buy you a hat. To celebrate getting out of natures fury.

Perhaps a new hat is in order. The other guy in the picture is not Ryan (Seibertron). It's David Willis (Walky), the guy who writes and draws Shortpacked.
