Live Earth

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

******* load of *****, complete load of ****.

The only memorable moment for me was watching the Pussycat Dolls shake their booty, the one wearing white cut off hotpants is fit.

I'm still baffled as to how everybody sitting down in front of the telly at the same time is meant to reduce energy consumption to the point where it saves the planet.

I bet all the "informational video skit things" coincided with massive energy surges as everybody went off to put the kettle on.

I did my part by being out most of the day and thus using no electricity at all.

All the decent acts are at T in the Park this weekend anyway.
Grrr. Argh.

One of the problems is the people that go to these things and watch on TV don't give a toss. They're there for the music. During Terence Stamp's speech they were chanting Madonna's name.

Give the tickets to the people that work for the charities. Or just save electricity and go down the pub and discuss global warming with your mates. Though we normally discuss who you would sleep with/marry/push off a cliff.

Exactly.

Same with the musicians, they're just there for the PR.

How much co2 emissions were given off by all the equipment used to stage the event?
Grrr. Argh.

glad I gave it a miss from what I hear, too busy working to be watching that. Also glad I've given up on the tv as standerds seem to have not only lowered, but no longer exist. We'll soon be faced by a hole that sucks all quality in the universe into it slowly and at it's eye will be Big Brother.

Least it wasn't as mawkish as the Diana back-slapping contest. I've no objection to people expanding energy in order to save the planet (some resources must be consumed at some point to do anything) but I just don't see how a bunch of musicians is really going to do anything- most people were aware of the issues anyway (which were barely scratched).

On another note, does anybody else think that huge world-wide concerts for big causes should be special so they stand out? Rather than having one/two a year for pretty minor causes (a dead princess' birthday and Al Gore wanting a bigger audience for his 'in an ideal world...' pledges?).

I always thought it was ironic how the celebrities are trying to get us to save power and bragging about their new 'hybrid' cars and how they're doing 'more' for the world, when they live in huge mansions that probably consume more power and produce more waste than the entire office that I work in. Even you Al Gore, sorry.
