What's up London?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Been reading the news about the police finding bombs and stuff.
What's the deal?

Everyone okay?
Can't believe I'm still here.

Yeah I was just going to post about this myself.
I have some friends there right now visiting too, like Ob said I hope everyone's OK.

There were two bombs - one detonated and one was found? I assume our news over here might be delayed.

Weren't both bombs found and defused? I haven't seen anything about a detonation.

Further reminder that we as the free world need to stay vigilant to protect ourselves from the violence of extremists.

Struth, carbomb in glasgow today. We're getting it rough this week :( Lucky nobody was hurt in any of these (except the halfwits who were driving the carbomb into the airport).

Have any of the attacks been linked to Al Qaida?

Whew, that's a relief. I read about the bomb in the jeep in Glascow just today. Crazy, all of it.

I think that's the belief at the moment.

Yeah most of the bombs are supposedly linked - the word on the news is that after the two failed bombs in London, the teroorist wankers went north, and headed back to thier HQ, in Glasgow. Perhaps in a fit of desperation, they than tried to attack glasgow airport, and screwed up again.

Since then, sunday, monday, 5 more arrests have been made but the UK remains at 'critical' status - ie, a terroist attack is expected at any moment. wooo

The men arrested are all from the middle-east.

None are born in the UK.

On the bright side, none of them seem particularly clever. None of their bombs worked and then they tried to drive a flaming SUV into an airport... forgetting it has security bollards outside so it just collided and went bang.

Guess you don't have to be stupid but it helps... alot.

"So I go blow myself up and then biiiig hero party?"
"...Yeah, sure... of you go..." [/Family Guy]

Seriously, what on earth makes people feel the need to do such a thing - oh I know, but Ill wait for the police to say it.

What I want to know is out of the two guys arrested, how did they pick up another 3 so quickly, did the 2 men just blab all they knew?

On another subject, I watched pretty much all 6 hours of the Diana Birthday concert yesterday, which had an odd atmosphere but i thought it was pretty cool.
It got me thinking, do these nut-jobs terroist ever watch these shows, and perhaps get a feel for what the UK is really about, freedom, peace and good-will?

Saying that, freedom, peace and good-will kind of gos against everything a life of faith is about, so i guess that makes people strap up for a bit of free bombing or somthing...

Oh well, [composite word including 'f*ck'] em, the UK will go on, life will go on...

Liked some of the acts at the concert, my only gripe is I wished it had been a bit more about the charities the proceeds were going to and less about the posthumous ass-kissing (by the end of 6 hours I was pretty sick of hearing how absolutely perfect and brilliant Di was); tho the point remains definitely at least its about something positive and good. How do people really think that blowing innocent people up is in any way good, apart from some vague claptrap about toppling a decadent and godless society?

I didnt mind hearing about Di, as the concert was about her.
What was interesting, was to actually hear how she interacted with these charitys she was partner too.
So often I heard about Di being the patron to a charity and thought " yeah, so what do u care?" now I got to hear how she behaved with these charitys.
I dunno she gets alot of stick but look at the way the monarchy has been changed forever, for the better, look at will and harry, they will surely go on to use thier status and money to help people, and that can only be a good thing.

I get a bit fed up with hearing ppl bitch about our monarchy (this isnt aimed at anyone hear, just a general rant) - the current queen has come through a war and through a massive change in public opinion, she is of the old breed and no it probably doesnt fit anymore.
We should never give up our past, not just for the fact it generates **** lods of cash but because thats what Britian is about, it would be a shame to have a president, a faceless wanker whos been elected through the ignorance of a nation.
At least roayls like will and harry are highly educated and motivated young men with a decent grounding in sociolagy, due to thier mother I might add.

I am fascinated to see what the future will hold with these two, a King Willam will be a very different monarch to the one we currently know. I was also thinking that the national athem will change to Land of Hope and Glory, not very important but I like that song. ahem.

On the current queen, I always recall hearing a man say that monarchs sacrifice thier lives for thier country. When u think about it, its very true.
They might be rich but its not like they can buy a new sports car, or even drive it. they cannot go holiday where they like, its a royal visit. They have no friends outside of the palace they can go down the pub with or ask if thier butt looks big in the royal dress. they live a life of complete protocal, a representation of great Britian.
PM's come and go, the queen remains the same, and its an image ill never grow tired of.

Yesterday, in contrast to the terroist plots over the weekend, Di's concert made me proud to be British again, and reminded me that I myself have been given some great talents that I could put to better use.

I've nothing against the Royals. But that concert pretty much proved Diana had an awful taste in music. Still, Chris De Burgh and Barry Manilow weren't there so it could have been worse.

Kiefer Sutherland was there. I feel safer already. Lets get him on the anti-terrorism case.

Haha - I was thinking the same thing!

Am I the only person who thought P-Diddy was a tit? - "Big it up Diana, you were Beautifull, So royal!".... um yeah... we all know, stop telling us, were British.

To paraphrase Stephen Fry, the Diana concert made me think that sometimes there just isn't enough vomit in the world...P Diddy was just the worst symptom of the most mawkish, cloying and smug televised event I think I've ever seen. In the end I downloaded Last of the Time Lords and watched that again instead.

The terrorism thing doesn't really bother me - I suspect it's Gordon's doing anyway, lest we forget that we're supposed to be living in a state of terror. After all, how will he push through all his unpopular policies if it's not for our own protection?
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Yeah, I was thinking it is a funny old coincidence that these terrorists were completely ****, and was cynically thinking at the time this could be a bit of comotion to keep the Isralian minister for Plea bargain rape charge drop out of the british press.

Probably been watching a bit too much X-Files there.

Oh, and the Princess Di bollocks - load of old ****.
