Pirates of the pirates: Piretying pirates (Pirates)
Post

Saw it yesterday and I have no idea how I feel about it.
It wasn't bad or boring - but there wasn't any WOW!!!-moments either.
Entertaining all the way through though. It didn't feel like it was three hours long
I really liked the look of the ships. It really felt like they were big, heavy and difficult to manevour
![Yay!](images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Can't believe I'm still here.

Right now I think I prefer second part, but still great movie and some awesome lines. I think Ob is right that it simply haven't got moments, like Jack's death in the Dead Man's Chest.
Can I do semi-spoilers? Ah, just in case...
The ending... nicely done (Will and Lizzie's thread).
"Nine things we happened to have in our pockets".
"This is madness." It's obvious what I thought at this point but Jack topped that.
Jack in the Locker was superb if somewhat disturbing.
And Keith... Shame he didn't played Satisfaction after he sat with a guitar. ![Smile :)](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Absolutely fookin' ace
Big, loud, stupid and with bags of swashbuckling. Top notch fun
What I love best, stupid as it sounds, is being able to tick all the boxes: toothless yo-ho-ho'ing, crowsnests, treasure, maps, eye-patches, wooden legs, 'y'aaaaaar's etc.
And yes, that celebrity cameo was to die for, especially considering his influence regarding the portrayal of one of the leads
![Wink ;)](images/smilies/wink.gif)
You have to admire the bloke, his ability to laugh at himself is unfathomable (and I have it on good authority he is a positively super, stand-up bloke IRL also)

I just got back. Honestly, I think this movie could have been cut down to about 45 minutes and slapped onto the end of Dead Man's Chest.

But Terminator 3 was such a fantastic use of two hours
I'll raise you down to 30 seconds. But then there would have been less swashbuckling and madness

I liked T3 almost entirely because of the humor and its absolute refusal to take itself seriously. It was fun. Pointless, but fun. Pirates 3 was kinda depressing.

I don't know about that, I thought it was tons of fun personally

Possibly. I know I didn't. I did get chills during the opening song, though.

In a similar vein, worryingly enough the trailer shot of Screamer transforming before the movie started did make me tingly

Was I the only person who didn't get to see the TF trailer before the movie? My city blows (apparently)

I liked T3 also, but don't remember it being humorous save for some Arnold one-liners and the such. Probably the strongest trilogy in movies, IMO, with the possible exception of Star Wars 4-6 and from what I hear, The Godfather.
Anyway, saw Pirates 3 and thought it was better than the second, particulary in the special effects department. That scene with the maelstrom and the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchmen going at it was awesome. Music was top notch, as was Depp. A worthy addition to the collection, with a few silly points.
I too think it could have been cut down about 30 minutes, however.
Gave it 3 of 4 stars.

Watched it last night...
hmm, the effects are indeed brillant, and ill leave it there.
Thought it was to long, contrived and some of the scenes were just cringe worthy! - K.Nightlys big lecture to the pirates to rise up and fight was crap, and the wedding scene, well, i wanted to leave.
In all, P3 limped over the finnish line for me, the plot got to messy, and everything that made the first film, and bits of second film great, ie, the fun and humor of the film, were gone.
average at best.

Definitely the two worst scenes in the movie.

I was in a packed cinema and I could see people looking at each other, mouthing "WTF".
What spoiled the 'speech' for myself was that it was too serious, it was as if we had slipped into braveheart mode or somthing, when was PotC ever about this?
The wedding scene spoilt the best scene of the movie, I felt everything was looking up when the boats entered the whirl pool, the battle was building and the set pieces were falling into place.
Then WHAM, a stupid wedding scene, that blew all the emotion.
Ok, one other thing, Jack getting killed, im sorry but his dad could have
A. used that small knife on Jones's heart,
B. allowed Kirra and Jack to be together.

Did anyone stick around through the credits? There is another scene. It's 10 years later and Elizabeth is waiting.
Big deal? Not really. Especially since they cut out the scene that explains that, if your love remains faithful for the 10 years you're gone, you are free from your obligation to captain the Flying Dutchman.

why did they do that?
and how does it explain anything, will becomes captain, so doesnt he follow D.Jones on his mission to hell? erm, no because davy was good but avenged ? it doesnt make sense... oh well.
the thing is, and I do get the plot, it takes to much to understand the plot completely, its to messy, the usual suspects is clearer and thats saying somthing.
I miss Jack.

Huh. Kinda important to know. Changes the ending quite a bit to know his years of service was over and he goes free. A much happier ending.

Ok, one thing I hafta ask about.
"Four of you have tried to kill me in the past; one of you succeeded."
I know there's Lizzie, Barbossa and I guess Will at one point, who's the fourth? Tia Dalma?
