If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Summer holiday!
Post
by Eline » Wed May 23, 2007 7:10 am
We're almost there!
It looks like spring has re-started so summer cannot be far of, and then it's time to go on holiday. Got any fun stuf or trips planned?
My plans are pretty flexible, mostly depending on the weather, and will probably be one of those:
- cycling and camping in the Netherlands (easy, cheap, fun, lots of outdoor activity)
- touring through Germany/Czech Republic/Austria, combined with a housewarming party of a friend who moved to Berlin (either by car or train, and then camping)
- Scotland and/or Wales, because I've never been there yet
Any ideas or tips?
If I just had 2-3 months of holiday, I could do everything!
Too bad I've only got 2-3 weeks...
(and I'd also like to go to New York in September...)

Sounds like the same amount of time we get in Singapore. It's not till June though.

Plans? Just eBay, my Megaman X games, and my homeschool program. I'm still trying to get all of the RID/A/E/C/Alternator figures that I've been drooling over. Also, I'm thinking about getting a t-shirt made out of sheer boredom and frustration that says: "I'm looking forward to AmeriGodzilla II on 7/4/7. When's the Transformers movie coming out?"(I know that phrase has been worn out, but the general public doesn't know that.

Probably mentioned it before, but I love scotland (well, the highland and Islands anyhow). I've got two weeks on a small island off the west coast of Scotland to look forward to! Wilderness and no people. Bliss!
I was in Shetland the other week, too. I'm gonna live there when I'm rich!
So, yeah. I recommend Scotland!

Ummm, Scotland is the country forming the north of mainland Britain, and Wales is the country (principality?) to the west.

I did the coast of Northern Ireland while I was there a few years ago. Wish it hadn't been by bus. I would've loved to bike/hike it.
I think I'm going back to Utah this summer for a week or so... mostly to finish up my longsuffering album. Maybe we'll hit the arches and Zion's Canyon while we're there.

I went to Ireland many years ago but did not visit the north, but it was very beautiful too
The US is still on my to-visit list. But it's so big that I don't really know where to start...

It depends what you're going for. If you're outdoorsy, you should come to the West. Utah-Colorado are good for skiing and seeing some gorgeous desert landscape (mesas, arches, pillars). The Pacific Northwest (Seattle and Vancouver, Canada) are great for kayaking and forest-hiking stuff.

What about cultural stuff? I like looking at architecture and churches and museums and such.
But I also want to walk around in beautiful nature, and eat fantastic food.
(that's why Italy is one of my favourites)

Maybe Washington D.C. or New York(As long as you watch your back, keep a defensive weapon, and never go out at night
).

Best First: is that for work or holiday? Sounds very nice either way though!

I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
This year will be a low-budget holiday, but next year we hopefully go somewhere far away. So far Namibia and the US are on top of my list.

The US isn't that great, but it sure beats freezing your (insert body part here)s off in Canada.
(No offense to any Canadians here.)

Well tomorrow starts my well deserved (in my opinion) vacation. I'm going all the way to Europe from Canada - to Barcelona to be exact, then I'm taking a Mediterranean cruise around Italy/Greece and Turkey.
I can't wait, I'm actually giddy about it. Although I can't decide if it's the actual trip I'm giddy about or not having to work for two weeks ha ha.
See you guys when I get back!

For Reals, if you're in the LA area from now until June 28th, lemme know. We'll go get sloshed and make bad mistakes...

Probably too late, but when in Barcelona, check out this nice cocktail bar called Milk.
Sounds like a great trip!

I'm taking my boyfriend to stay with my parents for a couple of days in July.
Just the thought of it freaks me out... my family have pretty much accepted him, but no one other than the brothers that live with me have spent much longer than an hour or so around him before. A couple of days is going to be interesting... plus, extended family is REALLY, REALLY curious about him. I keep getting asked about him every time I visit.
Our families are really different, too. Mine is bigger, more sarcastic, and close-knit. Plus my boyfriend, though I love him is definitely a "city boy"... he has gone camping but I'm not sure how he's gonna take to staying in the sticks for awhile.
I'm skeered!
