Important petition

As you may have heard, Paris Hilton is trying to avoid her jail sentence by starting a 'free Paris' petition on her myspace. The basis of this appeal is that she brings light into the mundane lives of us regular folk. In response, I direct your attention with this petition, which I urge you to sign:

Let's do our bit to send the stuck-up cow down.

It's nice to know that, just occasionally, justice can't be bought. It takes a small weight of my grouchy, cynical, weary old soul.
I hope her lawyer fleeces tonnes of cash out of the ****er while fighting the 'appeal' in vain, as well!

because really, what do you call someone who doesn't actually do anything in life.
I unfortuantly was made to watch some entertaiment program this morning, on the show they interviewed people in rgards to PH going to jail. - this was in LA by the way.
Lots of people said that because she was a model she shouldnt go to jail.... seriously, I have no hope for the world sometimes.

A sick joke surely?
*sigh*
The decision to release Paris Hilton from jail yesterday after just three days inside has been slammed by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo. Delgadillo is furious the Sheriff's Department didn't consult him before permitting Hilton's release on medical grounds. The socialite was serving a 23 day sentence in the Century Regional Detention Center for violating her parole following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest. Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and will now serve 40 days under house arrest. Delgadillo says in a statement: "Today I was extremely troubled to learn that the Sheriff's Department has decided to release Ms. Hilton from custody just three days after she was admitted to county jail. Had we been provided with the proper notification, we would have opposed the decision on legal grounds. I am also concerned that the judicial process may have been improperly circumvented in this case. I have directed my criminal branch to immediately explore all possible legal options to ensure that the law is being applied equally and justly in this case. If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment." Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is also highly critical of Hilton's early release. He says, "This early release gives all the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released."

How did Rev. Sharpton figure that racism was a factor in this case? He's right about rich people being treated special, but racism? Last I checked, O.J. never went to jail and Whitney Houston was never arrested for drug posession.

A general reference to the huge numbers of very rich and important people who tend to get away with murder (figuratively and literally) also being caucasian with a few exceptions I'd guess.
Personally I think the instant her defence was mounted as literally "I'm too important for prison" her sentence should have been doubled for demonstrating a positively startling contempt for the law and legal process.

Don't prisons tend to have medical wings for ill people?
House arrest? I can imagine thats a punishment if you live in a tiny one bedroom apartment or something, but christ on a bike, she's Paris ****ing Hilton!! Poor Paris, being retricted to inviting people around for parties rather than going out to them. Torture.

She is due in court at 0900 (1600 GMT) on Friday, where Judge Michael Sauer, who sentenced her to jail at her trial in early May, will hear the case for her "reassignment" to house arrest.
Grrr. Argh.

Psychological grounds? Maybe her brain baulked at the thought of actually having to face up to the fact she'd messed up and wasn't above the law?
In which case, good. She can spend the full time in jail. Maybe at some point she'll be forced to come to terms with what she actually did, and come out a better person. Or, y'know, probably not... but there's always hope.
