what is the current popularity...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

what is the current popularity...

yeah, i know i said i would be more involved with this comunity, but i still feel so alienated when it comes to what in gods name everyone is talking about. i guess because of my easy going personality i am never attentioned to every detail, and sometimes i feel like i'm watching the equivilence of transformer fans from galaxy quest at this site. i consider myself a fan of the mechanical properties of the transformer series; more drawn to the complexity of the characters, vehicles, and toys; than the story or dramatic elements; and i am ashamed to be inferior to such transfan gods such as yourselves. i drift through life so unaware of the social aspects that the only things that my attention is cool gadgets, pop technology, and detailed and at most complex toys and machinery. i am always looking at how my life and belongings could have all modern conveinences in the most compact ways. i am currently designing my futer house. which is a conversion van with a livingroom/single bed, bathroom/shower, kitchen/dinning room/ and over head full size mattress with pop-up roof for headroom. yes i want to live out of a van; a super cool van with all of todays modern technologys such as a lcd tv and tempurpedic furniture and births; a full kitchen with everything and a washer and dryer custom; and still have room for all my transformers and a 500 gallon water suply, and a generator to save on gas and have less engine use. i love technolgy, i love compactibily, i love mechanics, and most of all i love being able to pull anchor and go where my heart leads me with freedom to never look back. you could say i' a big baby and i would agree. i lead more to my creative side of my brain than my logic, and i live my life as youthful as i act. i am a child at heart and my spirit is just as unconditional. as big and fat and hairy and ugly as i look i live a simple life and i don't expect people to think anything big about me. but i live my life based on what looks cool and how fun it can be. so even if i'm not a hardcore transfan, and even not a logic adult, i know what i like and if i'm not good at it just the same if i enjoy it then its good enough for me.

now to the topic at hand.

i had wondered about transformers fanbase. i questioned myself on how well the movie which i have read about since it was only rumors and posibiltys. basicaly in my opinion i feel that if the series has been onging for roughly thirty years then its fanbase would be astronomical. rivaling no-one but startrek. if you think about it worldwide it might just have the most popularity. there isn't a person i have ever met that dose not no what transformers are. if you think about it even if there are only 10 million hardcore fans there are millions if not at least a billion people who can relate to transformers in some way. since i have joined this group i have met hundreds of people my own age and older who own collections and are religious to the show and most of them were at toy stores picking out there next edition like myself. i was simply amazed at the strong popularity amoung adults and the grip on kids today. so i guess i wonder; if people even those who grew out of transformers long ago saw the upcoming movie for what it attemps to be. and if people worldwide had a choice of what movie they would watch. and just guessing that most people would be drawn to their childhood heroes. my question is: is it possible that even though the movie is being put in sixth for this summers blockbuster do you think there was a mistake? i mean come on think about it if half the people in the world who liked transformers at one point in time and got drawn back in just to relive that childhood experince just once again. then don't you think that the movie has a chance to gross over a billion dollars?

Sorry, bud. I feel for you, but it's just really frustrating trying to keep focused on what you're on about when you're not using capitalisation nor shorter paragraphs.

Not a gamer myself, so I don't have an opinion on the PSP, but definitely no objection to you having it in your avatar/signature, as long as it fits the forum rules on such things.

As far as your RV goes, go for it. A couple of years back a friend and I considered using an artic/semi as a suitable base for conversion. Think Knight Rider. Never came of anything, tho. No cash for it.

Anyway, don't see anything wrong with the mobile home route. Can have all the normal 20th Century luxuries, with the added plus that with the introduction of Broadband over GPRS (that's using cell/mobile networks to the less technical), in a few years the technology should be pretty affordable. All you'd need to surf the web was to park somewhere where you get a decent signal strength.

Oh yeah, and don't go referring to us a transfans gods, as though we're all these pedestal-strutting founts of knowledge that is near-inaccessible to the layman. We're just people who've been interested in the subject for a long time and have been lucky enough to have spent some of that time engaging in conversation and debate with similarly-interested people.

Now that wasn't insolent at all. That was downright friendly. :P

I agree that the upcoming movie will make money, but through tricking the 80's kids that have been out of the loop into seeing it. Michael Bay himself said he wanted the designs to be secret and show very little in the commercials. If you watch the commercials and look at the promo material, there aren't any clear pictures of "Megatron" and they never identify which Bayformer is "Starscream". People will go expecting it to be a G1 movie, as that is the series that they remember most. Probably 3/4 of them will be appauled. Most of the people who watched the original show as kids don't know about the changes the franchise has gone through, so their reaction will be much worse than the original fanbase reaction. The fanbase may be "getting used to" most of the designs, but this movie will truly get it's impact from the 30-year olds who watched the original show while munching their cereal. The way I see it: No matter how much money this movie makes, if a good chunk of the people who go see it hate it, Michael Bay won't be making any movies anytime soon.

BTW, good luck with your RV.

I'm an easy-going lad too! I never had anything against ya. :)

And I do think it might well make a billion, at the very least I think it's going to trump FF2.

Just took you more than a year to realize what most of us did after the first 6 months... ;) Recently I believe EA started threathening to withdraw their support unless Sony made it sell more. Alas, I don't think anything ever came of the threath, but it shows pretty good where it's at.
