LCD POS

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

LCD POS

Post by Shanti418 » Mon Apr 02, 2007 5:17 pm

Hi all,

I've been rare around these parts lately since my cat knocked my Macbook Pro off my desk and fractured my LCD screen.

So my question is to the techies out there: What the F*** do I do?

Seems to me my options are:

1) Replace the screen. There's a bunch of how to sites on the Net, and I think I could probably get a screen for around $500 or so. BUT, my 'Book has other issues, like a screwed up optical drive, so I'd much rather......

2) Sell the 'Book to some sort of computer repair people, who can either fix it and sell it again, or use it for excellent parts. I would hope to make at least $500 out of this (When I got it, it was a $2100 computer, but through my connections, I got it for $1300), and then use the money towards buying a more scaled down notebook, ie one that's primarily for word processing and Net stuff. When I got the Macbook, I needed to run Final Cut Pro. I don't need to do that anymore. Of course, there's always....

3) Buy a cheap monitor, and live out my existance with a handcapped, landlocked notebook.

So what's the deal? Is my MacBook even worth the metal it's made out off at this point? Do people buy these things? Should I cut my losses and sell it, getting a simpler notebook, or should I press on with repairs and buying external monitors/optical drives, determined to make it rise again?

A decision must be made soon. I'm going through Internet Porn Withdrawl.

Contact Apple and send it back for repair- it won't be cheap but unless you've got a mind to tinker with the inside of something complicated its your best option. Broken laptops aren't necessarily worth a lot except to people who want a certain bit or to firms who want spares and neither are likely to pay much.

Really? There's seriously LOTS of sites around that show you how to do it and encourage even the most tech unsaavy among us to try and not pay the cost. If I were to have to pay $1000 to fix it, I'd much rather just buy a new one at a grand or less, and still sell my old one for spare parts.

If you feel up to it give it a go :) laptop monitors are usually the least nasty bit of hardware to take apart... but beware the groove.
