I have to admit, when the Master was shooting him and the beam bounced off, inside I was screaming "THIS IS THE END OF THE ROAD, GALVATRON!"
...but dodgy god-powers aside, I'm having trouble thinking of a TV show that engages me on anything close to the same kind of emotional level.

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Dont get me wrong bin loving Doctor who since it was brought back its just that it seems to be having a little crisis of confidence in what its supposed to be.
I dont want it stupidly realistic but I would rather see a bit more doctor kickin ass like tom baker of old.
And please can we have a meeting of the doctors in the next series like in the ole days of the 'Five doctors' etc. It would be really special to see some of the old guard, baker, davidson, and if we must mccoy, backer(colin) and mcgann
edit
oo and perhaps davros?

I was hoping for an old fashioned punch up/swordfight/thing between The Master and The Doctor. I thought we were going to get that when they teleported to the quarry. Oh well.divebomb wrote:

I can completely understand that being the point of veiw for a long term Who fan.divebomb wrote:Dont get me wrong bin loving Doctor who since it was brought back its just that it seems to be having a little crisis of confidence in what its supposed to be.

What I struggle to understand is the complete slating I've seen the finale and John Simm's Master come in for. I liked large parts of it, yeah there was some stuff that was stupid... That's a shame but it doesn't = the whole ep being ****, IMO

I really liked simms' hamming up of certain parts and really enjoyed his contribution to the last couple of eps, I just wish that he hadn't taken the role because he would have been my choice to take over as the doctor next time round. It could however still happen as I think it would open great opportunities with story lines if the doctor through regeneration took hold of the form of the second to last of his race.
as for the supportive role in the next series freema isn't in it for the first half (yay!) but is for the second half (boo!) now I haven't got a thing for wanting rose back etc I just dont find her a very good actress and think that there are plenty of others that could do the role better.
Rumour has it there will be a male assistant for the first half with reggie yates in the frame along with the kid who plays craig dean from hollyoaks, neither really the great white hope.
with the xmas ep tho there could be really good chance for them to get a bit more paradox stuff in as there has been reference from a couple of the doctors in the past, most recently eccleston that he was on the titanic.
but realistically the doctor will prob arse about for a bit, find some kid with a gas mask on like previous story, bump into the band who played whilst it was going down only to find out that they are the santa claus things trying to shoot him again with a trombone. Then end up rescuing a lower deck passenger who will then become the new assistant, opening up the 'blimey guv'nor I never thought the future would look like this!'

McGann is probably the only one that wouldn't look like he's aged that much since being the Doctor (logically because he actually hasnt). With a bit of imagination (or makeup) McCoy and Davidson could possibly get away with it, however (unforunately) neither of the Baker boys look anything like they used to.divebomb wrote: And please can we have a meeting of the doctors in the next series like in the ole days of the 'Five doctors' etc. It would be really special to see some of the old guard, baker, davidson, and if we must mccoy, backer(colin) and mcgann
Oooh yes, i reckon we might be in for a bit of Davros action next year, I mean we've had the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Master... who's left on the iconic baddies list (yeah, like Autons and the Macra were really out there in the public eye!)... it's got to be Davros... i really can't think of any other Iconic baddies... plus what with Dalek Kaan being the last of the species, I reckon he might go and find their creator to get them going again...divebomb wrote:and perhaps davros?

edit: if by the news there that tom ellis could be the new companion, i'd be happy, a proper actor could be good

Catherine Tate has been announced as full time companion next year.
Gotta admit, I'm not best pleased.

Bet any Freema haters wish she hadn't gone now.

I didn't see the Captain Jack / Face of Bo convergance coming. I thought that was a nice touch at the end.
My problem with this series overall is that the strength of the individual episodes seams to have been sacrified for the overall story arc. Its like they said "we need to get from here to here, and these key things must happen - now go and write some filler to bulk it out".

well I know i'm not gonna go outta my way to watch the next series, I plainly just don't like her, don't find her funny and realistically it is just the beeb bumming up one of their 'prize' assets.spiderfrommars wrote:Catherine Tate has been announced as full time companion next year.

I'm still glad freema's gone but would have liked to have just seen a real actor/actress given the role.

I think i'm in the minority, but i really didn't mind Catherine Tate in the Xmas special (i'm not really a big fan of her comedy show, but it's ok) and i'm actually looking forward to seeing her in the next series. It'll be interesting to have a companion who isn't in bloody love with the Doctor, that's for sure.
As for Freema, she'll be back in the second half of the series apparently alongside Catherine, it'll be interesting to see how two companions are handled in the new series... especially one's as different as Martha and Donna.
As for Catherine's acting, she has done a number of things in the recent past, but yeah I kinda know what you mean.
But at least we get Kylie in the Xmas special, eh?

ok, think i have pretty much seen all of this now thanks to tvlinks and bbc3.
Blink is probably my fave piece of TV of the year.
And loved the last 3.
Everything else was pretty groovy as well, even if the Dalek's were a bit anticlimactic this time round.
Best British Telly by a mile. Even better than Hollyoaks...

Hopefully he'll spend the time off backpacking round the world, really finding himself... listening to Jack Johnson, doing loads of drugs... come back with long hair, a tan, some beaded necklaces and be ready to really get down to business when he returns.spiderfrommars wrote:Bit sad about the gap year between seasons 4 and 5 tho.
