If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

It's based on one of Frank Miller's masterpieces.

I'm eagerly anticipating it. If only because Zack Snyder's signed on to direct the movie version of Watchmen... and this will be the big indicator of what he can do with films not adapted from Romero....
Grrr. Argh.

not that ign.com is the defacto review site but it just got 5/5, and it sounds truly epic.

Yeah, Rome is really awesome. Pullo is so ******* cool :D

The 300 trailer sends chills down my spine! It's on my "Must see"-list.
I've never seen a really epic "war" movie at the movies. So it's gonna be sweet.
Can't believe I'm still here.

He's a big, sweet and kind brut! :)
I actually get all misty eyed when he does something sweet for Vorenus.
And I cheer out loud when something good happens to him

Funny thing, the first time I saw the trailer, it looked like CGI all the way, like FF: The Spirits Within, but darker. Two thoughts came to mind: 1. It'd mean there'd be CGI gore and blood that you couldn't do with bottles of ketchup and raw meat, and 2. it'd look pretty damn cool.

The guys who played the Spartans were real actors. They used like 10-15 guys for the Persians, the rest were all CGI.

They had some beast of training.....in the gym 2 times a day for monthes.

saw it a couple days ago. Exactly what you'd expect. Visually stunning and entertaining, but not overly deep storylines. Not as good as Sin City, but definately worth seeing nonetheless. The ads do give away a lot of the cool scenes.

All I know is if I hear that guy go "THIS...IS....SPARTA!" one more time on TV I'm going to go apeshit.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I'm just geeking out over the inclusion of the historical Spartan remark:
"Our arrows will blot out the sun."
"Then we shall fight in the shade."
Straight from Herodotus baby!
"Herodotus wrote that when Dienekes... a Spartan soldier, was informed that the huge amount of Persian arrows blotted out the sun, he remarked with true laconic prose, 'So much the better, then we shall fight in the shade.'"

Can you tell I'm a history major...

And you manage to keep faith...

It'd be great to see someone do this kind of thing with the Crusades. Kingdom of Heaven was visual candy but not much for story. I hear there's an extended version out there that makes the movie better.

It's much better, fills in nearly all of the plot holes in the theatrical release. I highly recommend it.

As to keeping the faith thing, well given that orthodox Christian belief holds that everybody's a sinner, it's no surprise that people do bad things. You expect more from the Chruch, but at the end of the day everybody's still human. And as it says somewhere in Matthew or maybe Mark or Luke, my mind is essay reduced mush right now, "Not everyone who cries Lord, Lord" to Jesus is the real deal. What's more of a miracle is that my dad got treated like s*** by our denomination for years because of a blow up with a problem congregation (the kind that eats every second minister that comes its way), and I'm still gonna be a minister.

Meaning that to anyone who's not a person of faith, I'm insane. (Though I still think I'm a little nuts every now and then, and ask God if this is really what he wants me to do)

if it makes you feel any better, I've always thought you were insane. :)

I hear that Zack Snyder (300's director) is the guy on Watchmen: The Movie.

Of course any great movie isnt without some jackass idiots claiming they're being depicted unfairly.

In the future, the only acceptable bad guys in movies will be aliens.
But boy will they be mad when we finally make contact.

fair to say that the Persians of the time probably had little resemblance to the 300...

course no in Greece complained about their home being depicted as a video game background.

Wouldn't be the first time Greece was depicted in a video game, come to think of it.
