i Phone...what?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

i Phone...what?

Post by Impactor returns 2.0 » Wed Jan 10, 2007 11:50 am

Apple showed off its new iphone yesterday, much to some ppls amazement im confused, I already own the same device, 1 year before iphones release...

this is my current phone I bought last november/december: http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc= ... &pid=10391

You will notice it does everything the iphone does and it even connects to itunes!!!

This is not the first phone to do everything iphone does either but it is the first I belive to at least look cool.

and my phone uses a symbian OS so I can use it as a GPS navigation system or open word documents, play emulators onit etc...

Gah, apple have lost it.

That's a sweet phone Impy.
Do you use all of its features?
Can't believe I'm still here.

pretty much, I use it as my mp3 player, play monkey island and lemmings when bored (great with a touch screen, ala DS) and have recently started downloading lots of software.

I keep learning more and more about it as I go, its got some neat functions.

I still haven't seen a pic of the iPhone, but I think, like the Mac, it's less about introducing radical new technology and more about taking the technology that's in Impy's phone, streamlining, simplifying it, and slapping a sexy interface on it for the great unwashed masses who may be less tech savvy.

The interface, from what I can tell on the iphone has the same layout as my phone (but u can change this) and it does look prettier, but I could change mine to look the same so...

Your phone's image doesn't seem to be of a phone, impy.

But if, having followed the sonyericsson link, I got to the specs of your phoen, there does seem to be a distinct difference, mainly in the lack of the iPhone's keypad?

There seems to be something of a ST:TNG feel to the iPhone.

But there has been a slow convergence between PDAs and Smartphones for some years now. Apple just seem to have moved into the field.

Sorry, was my image showing somthing other then my phone? sorry about that if it was.

I think the iphones keypad is behind the screen?

On a side note, i can dial on my phone by creating an onscreen keypad. i like using the touch-screen with my finger (it does have a tiny stylus) it feels very ST-TNG!

No problem. All I saw was a 10x5 white rectangle.

Could be anything, the location seemed genuine enough, though.

According to wiki, whose reliability is always debatable, there's no built-in keypad/keyboard, but I expect it does have an on-screen one which, as exampled with yours, is a feature of smartphones and PDAs.
