Earthquake in Taiwan hits undersea internet lines...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Earthquake in Taiwan hits undersea internet lines...

...so I'm not even sure if this topic will get through as I type this.

And they say it'll take several weeks to fix, so it'll most likely go on till I go back in camp on January 4, for 3 weeks, and I doubt it'll be done by the time THAT'S over.

I got an aunt, Kaedy, whose family is in Taiwan right now. :(

EDIT: So the connection seems a bit faster now... but only for some places. Like here, for one. Used to be that everything would time out.

hope your aunt and her family haven't been too badly affected.
sounds like the area got away fairly lightly in terms of human injuries. how's the ol' interweb connection fairing now?

Seems to be up to full speed. I keep reading that they'll need 'several weeks' for the lines to be fully restored, though. Apparently they didn't pay enough attention to the installation in the first place (not enough lines or something) and that's how this mess started in the first place.

And the family grapevine hasn't passed down anything about aunt Kaedy's family yet. All I know is, she actually came back FROM Taiwan a couple weeks ago, so there's a fairly narrow escape.
