If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I got a christmas bonus at work so I thought "Lets buy some comics".
I know nothing about comics though.
And that's where you come in!
I wanna place an order at
this place.
It's one hell of a list so I understand if you don't have the time to read through the whole damn thing (and that's not what I am asking you to do) - but if you know of a great Spider-Man comic feel free to see if they have it, or just type the name of it here
I am not looking for a particular hero or anything. I just wanna read some stuff that is
great.
I have Batman The Dark Knight Returns, The Killing Joke, Long Halloween and the one with Spawn.
Is there any other Batman comics that You can recommend me?
Thanks for your time and help.
Cheers
Can't believe I'm still here.

Let's see here...
Spider Man stuff - Not too sure about the Spectacular TPBs, I'd steer clear of Tangled Web, get the visionaries if you're a particular fan of that artist, JMS's ASM run is always good, but there's not really one definitive one that I'd say you should get above the others, except perhaps the first ones, dealing with marriage reconcilliation and Aunt May finding out about Peter being a superhero. However, Marvel Knights Spider Man, DEFINITELY. Those three TPBs, or one HC, are Mark Millar's run, and that's a highly enjoyable, eventful arc.
Other things I saw on the list that are good:
Post apocaplyptic dystopia "Y the Last Man," black and white zombie drama "Walking Dead", Preacher, Powers, or Superman:Red Son, a What If? story about if Kal-El crashlanded in Soviet Russia
Batman stuff - I would be looking at Miller's "Year One", Death in the Familly/Hush, and maybe No Man's Land.

Sorry I've been so coy about these rumors, but I always like to wait until the contracts have been signed and the "first trimester" has been survived until I talk about stuff.
But yes, inexplicably, I've been hired as an Executive Story Editor by the fantastic television show LOST. As I'm neither an executive nor an editor, this is really just a fancy Hollywood way of saying that I've joined the writing staff.
I can't talk about much more than that, so I implore you to please stop asking me what the island is, who the Others are, how Matthew Fox smells, etc. Still, I will say that I'm insanely honored to join such an amazing group of writers (some of their new scripts I've been lucky enough to read are destined to become the best episodes of the series), and I'm very grateful to Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for having so much faith in me.
And no, I'm absolutely not leaving comics. There are a lot of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina fans at the show, so everyone has been great about leaving me just enough time to work on those books, and even some new ones, including an upcoming four-issue stint on that Runaways guy Joss Whedon's "eighth season" of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER over at Dark Horse. Stay tuned for news on the all-important creator-owned front, as well.
I've learned more about the creative process in two weeks inside the Lost writers' room than I did in four (very rewarding) years at NYU's film school, so hopefully, this new challenge will push me to become a stronger writer and help my work to evolve.
Mostly, I just don't want to screw up a show that I love.

I'll have to start watching Lost.
On Spider-Man, To add to what Shanti said,
Amazing: get the Coming Home, Revelations and Until the Stars Turn Cold TPBs.
Spectacular: The Hunger TPB.
Marvel Knights: The hardcover or the individual Down Among The Dead Men, Venomous and The Last Stand TPBs.
On X-Men,
Astonishing: Gifted and Dangerous TPBs.
All of Runaways (available in those cute little mangas!)
I'm pretty much a Marvel junkie but Batman: The Long Halloween is good, as is Identity Crisis. You could read both without much DC knowledge.
Also, Brian Michael Bendis' run on Daredevil (available in hardcover volumes 2-5) is fantastic.
