I would have waited an eternity for this...
well, a few days actually, I feel the need to blow my own trumpet on my new super computer!
firstly
CPU - quad core extream 2.66 (or 10+ghz) 8mb cache !!
GPU - Geforce 8800 GTX - the fastest DX10 card...
RAM - 4GB Corsair XMS2 800mhz 4-4-4-12 timmings, because I rock.
Motherboard - EVGA Nforce 680i SLI - oh yes, the best!
Case - Silverstone TJ09B (Black) TEMJIN Aluminum Supertower - this brushed alloy baby is where its at. super sleek, incredible build.
Primary Drive - 150GB RAPTOR!!
Storage - 500 GB SATA 2 !
PSU - 750W Quad Rail Silverstone
Ah, my pocket feels somewhat lighter yet I feel faster than a Ninja riding a beam of light...

yep... specially gonna miss by bed, but it's going into storage with the rest of my belongings...
it's living on people sofa's for the next few weeks for me... yay...
then hopefully i'll be able to move into my new flat... hopefully.
so, the next few weeks i'll be spending all the money i can on upgrading my computer... not that it'll come close to Impy's rig, but then again i don't really need that much power!

I'll be buying a new PC next year when Vista and DX10 are out, i'll have about 3-4 grand to spend, but being **** at actually putting them together myself and not being sure about which components go best together I'm probably going to buy one and I was looking at Alienware as I hear they're good for gaming PC's is this a good idea or should I look elseware?

Hey Dylan! - will do mate, got a few things to re-work and render.
On a side note, my machine allows me to overclock my CPU, RAM and GPU safely and with stable outcomes.
Im ramping my CPU speed up to 3.2ghz (X 4 cores) on standard air cooling - but some folks are getting thier Quade core CPU's up to 4Ghz on water cooling, very safely and keeping them stable so I think ill try that in the new year.
Silly performance really but I do love it!
If anyone needs help building thier own rig and saving themselves $$$£££ at the same time, feel free to ask me.
If your wondering - the list of parts above comes to £2.4k - not to blab about money or anything but its a good indication of what u can buy, theres not much more you can buy, unless u go multi CPU, but you can start ramping the cost up x3 then...

Ha coolness.
We just got a 'regular' machine at our company, for one of the guys. For us, real-time graphics processing is most important. It's al nVidia these days, it seems. But to be honest, I'm not that much into hardware anymore...
Looking forward to seeing some of your work! Feel free to spam me at dylan@paladinstudios.com if you ever want to brag about something!
We're continuing work on the world's largest offshore simulator by the way, should be good. Plus we're picking up our virtual chatroom project again as well. 2007 is looking mighty interesting!

Maybe you could answer a quickie btw? I'm going to buy me a new HDD and it should be around 120 gigs or so but I'm wondering if there's any point in buying a new one until I upgrade to a motherboard that supports SATA or is there still reason to use the good ol' IDE?
