I can't understand why people use consoles. A PC does all what they can do, plus you can use it for browsing internet, writing, etc...
I heard about WII, but I'm not impressed... I was in Wien some years ago, and in the Museum of Music they had a similar device that let you conduct an orchestra... so this is hardly new.
Besides, I've gotten used to the mouse by now...

The Playstation 2 has been out for six years. The Gamecube has been out for five, and the X-Box also for five years.
This means that for six years you have been able to play every game that has been released for the consol you bought.
Now, lets take a computer that is six years old. Will it be able to play a game released in november 2006? Probably not. It might even struggle with a game released 2004.
This means that you have to upgrade your ram, graphics card, and this means that you might have to get a new motherboard = it's easier to buy a new computer = lots and lots of money.
And if you wanna play games with a friend you just buy an extra controller for your consol, and plug in.
If you wanna play PC-games with a friend you have to have another PC = money money money.
(I am not talking about gaming over the internet - since it's much more fun getting together with a bunch of friends).
IMO, of course

Yeah... but by today, there are tons of new game stations - XBox, Playstation 1 and 2, Gamecube... and you buy one, you'll only be able to play games released for that console (while on the other hand, almost all games get PC release).
I myself will never get a console, mostly 'cause the type of games released typically for consoles (FPS, car racing, sport simulators, Real-time RPG) don't hold much interest for me. I mostly play TBS/RTS, or side-scrolling arcade games. I admit, upgrading a PC is costly... but, there are so many games and I have so little time, I'm still playing games from 2-3 years ago today (with Blitzkrieg 1 now, for example). Still, I will have to upgrade it soon to be able to play with Heroes 5... I rather spend my money on TFs.

Well, everything has its up and downs
And yes, there are tons of game stations. But you don't have to buy them all at once.
Today you'll get a Gamecube + one game for $140, or a Ps2 for $140, or an X-Box with an extra controller and two games for $240 (there might be better offers out there, I just checked at a random swedish web store).
Add to that the possibility of buying used games, and you are one happy fellow.
But of course, the same applies for the PC. You can buy a two year old PC, and play old, used games.
And this is exactly what I did. I bought the Ps2 when it was first released - and two years ago I bought my Gamecube And early this year I bought a new graphics card (not the newest super awesome über card though).
This way I was able to play Zelda, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy (which aren't released for the PC... at least not that I know of) and the Total War-series, without shelling out thousands of millions of dollars.
I do however feel that it is a lot easier to game on a consol.
You don't have to worry about hardware "What if this game has a history of not working with my graphics card?!" and other stuff.
You just plug it in, and game.

I've always been a console guy. I had a NES first, I probably didn't get my first home computer until like 1993 (I remember because I bought Doom II at the time. We're talking a 486 here, people. lol).
I also liked the plug and play aspect. For a computer newcomer, putting in a cartridge was tops over booting up a computer and launching .exe files, or worse yet, having to traverse into DOS to launch a program.
Plus back in that day, console controllers always seemed to work better than the peripherals you would buy for a computer, and I HATED using a keyboard.
Still though, I would go over to my friend's house for hours on end to sit and watch him play Ultima VII or Syndicate or Civilization, and envy the fun he was having.
And the necessary hundreds of dollars upgrades to a computer vs. a one time fee for the hardware in a console.
You know, that just made me think of a question: Why is it that computers need this constant upgrade to become better whereas on consoles, using the same hardware, games become better through the console's lifetimes as designers begin to learn how to take advantage of the technology? Shouldn't computers expeince the same thing? Do they? And if comoputer DO need these upgrades to stay effective for new games, is that why Mac games will always lag behind PC games, aside from the smaller customer base?
Anyway, next time I had some serious exposure to PC gaming again, I was living with a guy who was into lots of PC FPS: Deus Ex, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, stuff like that. I will definitely admit that when it comes to FPS's, a mouse is a more effective and quicker control than a analog stick, which is EXACTLY why the Wii could be so awesome. It could match a mouse in terms of responsivenss.
Hopefully that could also help bring some RTS's over to consoles as well, as I think those games are badass. I'd love to play Civ 3.
But I'm like Impy was pre GoW. I've got a lot on my plate in terms of life, and the 360 I have I rarely play because A, I don't have time, and B, when I play, I just don't play as long or it's not as enjoyable as it used to be. I just think I haven't played a game that's really blown me away with fun. And I think the Wii could do that. But I'm also broke, due to a surprise $1000 dental procedure I had to get done with no insurance. I could trade in my 360, but I've already made a big investment in the peripherals, it's my DVD player, and then I'd be up a creek when Halo 3 comes out.

Still no Wii - but my mate borrowed a wii from one of his mates, so I tried it out two days ago.
And boy are those Wii-commercials exaggerated
I mean, I understood that crazy **** like hiding behind the couch, then popping out John Woo-style was a little exaggerated - but even Wii Tennis is "falsely advertised".
I played a game of tennis against my mate, and he stood up, swung his arms around, and even made little "hnnggnn"-sounds when he served.
I on the other hand just flicked my wrist a little. It had the same effect as his crazy ass swinging.
I did however "see its potential", and I am eagerly anticipating a tennis game where you are required to really swing around. But 'till that time comes I am not gonna stand up and swing my arms like a mad man when it's not required - 'cause then I might just as well swing my Playstation controller around when Cloud attacks in Final Fantasy.
Bowling was really cool though. How you spun the bowling ball and ****.
And I understand that Wii Sports is just a "tech demo".
So bring on the real deal.

So, guys, I've bought a Wii. It's ******* italian. And since I can't read italian the manual is useless.
Everything'll probably explain itself, but I was wondering what you do when you wanna play another game.
Do you exit to the "home menu" and eject the disc? Or do you just eject the disc and then reset the console?

I like Rayman Not played the Nint version but it's usually good for a larfObfleur wrote:Yeah, I'm thinking about buying Warioware Smooth Moves
I got the Wii + Rayman Raving Rabbids + Mario Super Strikers for a pretty sweet deal so I'm starting out with those though
Surprised the console is still the best part of £200 tho- I'd have thought it would have a bigger price drop by now.
No need for the price drop, as soon as they're in stock they're sold out again, I would really like one but at the mo I've just bought a car, just about to relocate for my new job, kate wants a minature Daschund, and its her bday next fri!Karl Lynch wrote:I like Rayman Not played the Nint version but it's usually good for a larfObfleur wrote:Yeah, I'm thinking about buying Warioware Smooth Moves

Yar, so people keep saying- apparently nobody can get one anywhere, but they seem to have stacks of them in the shops here in Canters :Sdivebomb wrote:No need for the price drop, as soon as they're in stock they're sold out again, I would really like one but at the mo I've just bought a car, just about to relocate for my new job, kate wants a minature Daschund, and its her bday next fri!Karl Lynch wrote:I like Rayman Not played the Nint version but it's usually good for a larfObfleur wrote:Yeah, I'm thinking about buying Warioware Smooth Moves

Well, it didn't take ages But it was like typing using only one finger.
I mean, I know where all the keys/letters are and everything... so it was mostly down to remote technique.
Miis will be used in FIFA 08!
Probably a rubbish game, but the Miis are put to use.
Hopefully other games'll pick up.
My "channels" will be filled with old games, wooo.
