Who's getting a Wii?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Got one back in late Feb.

I've gotten the following:

Wii Sports
Wii Play
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Metal Slug Anthology
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Super Swing Golf
Red Steel
Super Paper Mario
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Plus a handful of VC games. I have really enjoyed it and play the wii games as much/more than the 40+ 'cube games I run on it. I believe that every Wii owner needs to play Trauma Center to learn why the Wiimote works. At least in my mind, it's a massive controller tutorial, with fun!

Now, back to my RE 4: Wii.

I bought a Japanese wii and thought better of it before I even opened the thing. It'll probably go back to the shop sometime this week or next.

Wii sports is good fun, and a good use of the controller.
Wii play is useless.
Sonic is ******* awfull and should be burnt and never looked at again, its a useless game that doesnt require a wii remote.
Metal slug, its good to see this kind of thing out there for people who never played MS before, I have them all on mame, but again, what the hell has it got to do with the wii?
Trauma center is a good laugh, it reminds of smooth moves, great inovative use of the wii remote, this is the exact type of game the wii was made for!
Super swing golf im yet to play.
Red Steel is so bad i wont even begin.
Super paper mario is on my shopping list, but I know it has [composite word including 'f*ck'] all to do with the wii remote, but im forced to buy it for my wii as its Nintendo.
Resi Evil 4 - I have both the GC and PS2 versions, I know the implements the controll quite well in this version but not enough to make me spend another £$ on the game I have already played to death. good game if u have not played it before.

VC - right, its so expensive its ******* bent, I have a GC controller connected to my PC, and i have every game on my PC ever made for the N64,Mega Drive, SNes, PC engine, Nes, Master system and more. it cost me about £10 on ebay. yes its illegal but to be honest I dont care.
The games look better on my PC to as i can use hardware filters on the graphics, and i have infinite saves... and cheats.

Anyhows, for about £20, u could have the same. Now i understand its nice to have the VC games on a console in my living room but to be honest, having played pretty much every game at some point, not many last me more than a few mins of my life because they are to old, the same effect happens on Xbox Live with the arcade games, they good for about 5 mins, then i turn them off, i have been there and done that!

i wouldnt mind so much with the VC games, but unlike Xbox Live they dont even update them for MP across the interweb, how ******* stupid is that? actually thats just not on - considering that people have updated my PC versions to work!!!! ffs, very lazy and over priced.

Either way, the wii sells way because people are interested to see what it can do, just like I was, its poorly supported, no one actually makes games that use the controller properly, ok a few games but either way, its a let down in my eyes.

I cant even finnish Zelda, do u know how bad it is when that happens?

Personally I thought the controls in Zelda were spot on.

they are gash - swing the controllet to operate the sword would be cool if the sword followed the controller - all it does is activate the sword animation like pressing a button, at which point pressing a button is better.

Then u have aiming with the wand, which is just a pain, and i revert to using the stick.

Fishing is good tho.

But seriously, its all very tedius and tacked on, it was a GC game, and I can see why people purchased the game on the GC, it was easier to controll. actually, that makes me think, can I use my GC controller to play Zelda on my wii?... that might solve it.

It all felt very natural and intuitive to me.

Zelda has never been about flashy swordfighting. With a normal controller all it essentially requires a single button press. Swiping the remote felt immersive in comparison.

Chalk and cheese I guess.

Felt really disconnected to me, it would help if what i did with the wand had any relationship to what was happening on screen. In the end im just wiggling my hand left to right untill a series of attacks has been performed.

Lets be honest, most of the game community had similar issues because it was just a GC game, and they tacked on a controll system that was never designed from the ground up.

Whilst it might work, is it the best way to play the game when a single button press is faster and more accurate?

I think the problem with the wii wand is that it serves only a few real purposes, and there are only a few times when it out performs a standard joy pad, in a game like zelda i see little poiint to it.
Maybe one day, when the wand can accurately track every angle of a sword swing etc... but this will require a console more powerfull then a PS3/360 and a controller far more sensitive than the wii wand.

Its a start i guess but I really dont think its holy grail it was percived to be. Im more inclined to belive that we will see a return to virtual gloves in the next gen of machines, they can do everything the wii wand can do, even virtually simulate joypads...

It is, and very good fun too.

Online service pales in comparison to Live though. It seems pointless when you cant chat with your mates

How many of you guys and gals own Strikers?
If we are like four people or more, maybe we could set up a cup or something?

Strange, most sites review the TF game as being really bad...

Don't trust magazine critics or online reviewers. They're too close minded. The game is awesome. It's pretty hard though.
