Which is worse?

Considering two hornets' nests of controversial tastes have recently been stirred... I figured it was time to make them fight each other, deathmatch stylee.
Well?
Well?

Considering I once knew all the words to the first two Spice Girls and first two Britney Spears CDs, I decided I'd best stick with Seinfeld. If you just watched the right episode, you'd gain the proper appreciation.

Oh, you silly, silly people.
What would you have said 10 years ago, that the Cosby Show sucked ass but New Kids on the Block rocked?
What will you say 10 years from now, that you couldn't stand South Park, but Justin Timberlake's "Sexyback" was the bomb?
Point is:
Seinfeld : Quality American Television
Bon Jovi : Non substantive easily forgettable American pop rock.
I mean, how did YOU like it Brits, in the mid 90s, when America thought Absolutely Fabulous SUCKED but we were all buying Spice Gilrs CDs?

Mostly in response to Shanti, numbered, for easy reference:
1. a) Ab Fab is about as forgettable as the rest of French & Saunders' "comedy" - see also Victoria Wood. It's watchable but I'd never expect it to make me laugh. However, b) I do maintain a little soft spot for the Spice Girls, probably because I once got off with Posh from a cover band
2. Seinfeld *is* quality American television. Having stayed in the US I can personally vouchsafe this to be true. By British comedy standards, however, it sucks like the proverbial ten dollar whore: Quick, signpost the funny situation well in advance! Highlight the funny situation in case they didn't quite get it yet! Pull a funny face (Kramer, Jerry), or do somethhing exaggerated (Kramer, George) to make sure they know this is the funny bit! Stick a load of slap bass over the punchline so they know when to laugh!
3. South Park is about the best television on the planet right now. I can't think of a (current) show that I like better, there's nothing else on TV (in the US or elsewhere) that even comes close. That last episode where the little boy died of cancer had me laughing so hard a bit of wee came out, and comparing South Park to Seinfeld is like comparing the Mona Lisa to the contents of my handkerchief, which - though entertaining for a minute or two - is ultimately disappointing.
4. I don't really remember the Cosby show, though I did watch it as a kid. I can't really offer an opinion on it. I'll try and get some episodes off of teh interweb and see how it plays.
5. New Kids can just **** off. My sister used to play that ****.
6. Bon Jovi (which, incidentally, I usually pronounce to rhyme with anchovy), though cheesy, did produce some great songs; as I'm having a karaoke themed party next week I fully expect to hear some of their tunes being butchered by my drunk friends. By contrast, I don't expect my drunk friends to be acting out the "funny" bits from Seinfeld. (2nd December, Sian's pub, for those London-based Transfans who fancy meeting up before I go to NZ for the winter)
7. For once in my life (and I hope this is the last time) I find myself agreeing with the boy Predabot.

You are the grandmaster-funk. Let's talk Impy into using red instead of blue as the overall colour-scheme for next issue. The UK-mag used to alternate a few colo'-schemes.Metal Vendetta wrote:I'm talking to the artist right now - I'll send over the art probably early JanuaryPredabot wrote:PS: When are we gonna start work on the next transfest-mag..?

True enough. Still though, for every "The Office" (even though it's written differently for different audiences), there are plenty of "Neighbours" or "Fawlty Towers". Point is, we Americans have a long history of not appreciating fine British Comedy. You could ask a random American today, and if you made them talk about modern British comedy for a minute, Benny Hill would be almost guarenteed mention.Metal Vendetta wrote:Mostly in response to Shanti, numbered, for easy reference:

True enough once more. Yet at the same time "Friends" was gobbled up the world over.2. Seinfeld *is* quality American television. Having stayed in the US I can personally vouchsafe this to be true. I don't think Seinfeld is deserving of SUCH contempt, especially when you say it's quality American television in the preceeding paragraph (or IS that what you're trying to say? hrmph. :P ) TBH, and I know I only brought this analogy on myself, but comedies and cartoons shouldn't even be compared. It's a lot easier to laugh at certain things (like a boy dying of cancer) when they're animated, plus you're not hemmed in by the logistics of things like casting and sets.3. Bon (joeh-vee) Jovi? Isn't it LIKE anchovy? Or is anchovy like aluminium? While sometimes sober when this occurs, my friends still make the occasional Seinfeld reference. A "yada, yada, yada," or perhaps something about shrinkage, or serenity now!, or a multitude of others.6. Bon Jovi (which, incidentally, I usually pronounce to rhyme with anchovy), though cheesy, did produce some great songs; as I'm having a karaoke themed party next week I fully expect to hear some of their tunes being butchered by my drunk friends. I may have gone a little over the top in my dissing of Seinfeld, it's not the worst TV programme ever by a long shot, and I can see how it became popular, I just really never found anything about it amusing in the slightest, and I've had loads of people telling me how funny it is. Or was. Anyway, I'm probably just ranting, but that's what the internet is for, right?
Right?
...
Instead of bon-joe-vee I say bonjer-vee - it's not important, it just amuses me.

Bon Jovi = two words
Anchovy = one
Bon Jovi said like anchovy is more "bonj ovi"... it's all in the timbre...
Am I being really dim here?

Whoops, thought Eastenders, put down Neighbours, which was actually an australian TV show from whence sprung Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia, and Russell "Fightin' 'Round the World" Crowe. Even then, I suppose Eastenders is a drama.....

It's like with Artie Ziff on Simpsons...spiderfrommars wrote:Fascists! The lot of you!
Marge: "You know why people hate you, Artie?"
Artie:" Anti-semitism?"
Marge: "No! It's because all you think about is yourself!"
Artie:"That's not true!" (thinks about lots of Arties dancing cancan and singing "Artie")
Back on topic... I once liked Bon Jovi, but then, I once liked the Gobots cartoon too. We live and learn. Seinfeld... never aired in Hungary, I'm afraid... or did I miss much?
