Election day

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Election day

Post by Eline » Wed Nov 22, 2006 10:06 am

After the coalition collapsed in June, today is voting day for the Dutch. Very exciting! :)

We have no two big parties like some other countries, but about 8-10 parties in the parliament that range from very left-wing to very right-wing. This means a coalition needs to be formed that has the majority, and usually this consists of two or three parties.

At the moment we have a centre-right coalition (with a prime minister who is said to look like Harry Potter), but the left-wing parties will most likely win a lot of votes today, so I think we will change to a left-centre or a totally left coalition. But you never know.

Hopefully we will get a coalition that actually stays on for the full four years, no more political murders (like we had in 2002, just a few days before the elections, and again in 2004), and world peace. :)

No vote, no voice.

I think they said the same about the Weakest Link woman. Which isn't helpful, I know.

Yup. :( So I read their pamphlets and made a well-informed decision.

And it's done! But what kind of coalition we will get now is not sure, neither left nor right has a majority, so there will be a long process of negotiations and all the nasty political stuff.

And after that they will hopefully do some good things.
