There are similar chap and chapettes that meet in the park by my house every weekend for some good old fashioned "dress up in D&D stuff and whack away with wooden swords" type stuf as well.
I mean, yeah it's dorky.
But on the other hand, if I hadn't realized while I was still a teenager that if I ever wanted to shag a beautiful woman, I'd need to keep myself at arm's length from D&D, Magic, and the like, I'd love to join 'em.
That's why *I* like to spend my time on comic books and Transformers. A bigger chick magnet you could not concieve.

Isn't it amusing how people jump all over people for doing this kind of thing? Don't get me wrong, it's not something I do. I've had friends invite me to things like this and it just isn't my thing. I don't see why it warrants such scorn, though. Why is pretending to fight while dressed in D&D type clothing so much worse than dressing up in football uniforms and loudly watching the game in a bar?
I think it's the "virgin" comments that get to me the most. Have you ever met these types of people? The larp people? They get more ass than I can believe. There is a HUGE cross-over between LARP people and ORGY people. There are usually some fine looking birds in those groups too.
Ask a woman, any random woman on the street, who she'd rather shag. An actor or a sports fanatic. Guy in armor VS guy with a beer gut hanging out of his Chicago Bears T-shirt. My money's 10-1 on guy in armor.
I rip into the sports people a lot because I think their obsession is given too much slack by the same people who lay into the "nerds." Hardcore sports fans lost their right to rip into D&D people when "Fantasy Football" got its 5th magazine.
From reading the comments on that video (why do I do this? Reading comments on YouTube makes me want to kill myself) I've learned the following things:
Having sex is the most important thing ever.
Unless it's with a member of the same sex.
Then it becomes the worst thing ever.
It's made even worse if you talk about it while using four letter words as verbs.
Dressing up as fantasy characters and LARPing automatically means that you will get no sex unless its the bad sex.
The degree of scorn you reap increases along with age.
People are idiots.
That's all for my little rant. I don't like LARPing. In most cases, I don't even like LARPers. But I dislike people who heap scorn on people for harmless hobbies on the internet much. much. more.

I was in Poland (Olsztyn) this summer with some friends, and the girl whose home we stayed at was into live action RPG... There was a big meeting at the weekend, and we saw all sort of LARPers... some were ridiculous (little kids with plastic elven ears and toy bows) while others had such amazing gear that you'd have thought they walked right through a time portal from the middle ages.
Granted, they all used styrofoam-swords and maces, in order to not to hurt each other. And since I don't speak Polish, I couldn't ask how they determine who wins in a fight, do they roll dices and then play the battle accordingly?
At any rate, people like these have too much time on their hands...

I'm definetely not doubting, in fact confirming, the LARP to ORGY connection, but I've yet to witness the aformentioned fine birds.
Definitely not saying they're virgins, just that in my experince, that is not typically where the hottest birds flock to. Not saying there aren't any, just that percentage wise, it's a losing battle.
And I definitely agree with you on the sports, except I usually think about it in a "All this time and effort and logical serious discussion people have on sports could be spent towards fixing the problems of the world. Why don't political debates get coverage like a sports game?" type angle.

Well, whenever I have any free time, I like to spend it with Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Don't you, Smooth?
KIDDING, KIDDING!
Anyway, although I do agree that creating costumes and weapons to act out fictional battles could be an indicator of too much free time on one's hands, I think that here, on a TF site, especially wish some people's deep knowledge ranging from the broadest to the most miniscule knowledge about TF toy releases/figures/variations, to actually speak towards them having too much time on their hands is an excercise in glass house rock throwing.

I think it speaks to the attention span of (and this is mostly concerning) Americans. Anything that seems to have taken more than a day seems to be a grand task that expends more effort than they can contemplate. After all, you can play through a video game in a day or so. Hell, an all-night game of Madden only takes up around 6 hours! You spent a summer reading classic literature? Dude, I watched the movies in, like, a day! Replica costumes for acting fictional battles? Man, in the amount of time you spent, like, learning a useless skill like sewing, then making that, like 17th century replica outfit, I totally watched an entire season of Bears games! Why don't you spend your time on something that matters? Like hanging out with your friends watching a box? Hanging out with your friends and actually doing something is gay!
I have issues, I think.

I definitely have my own issues identifying and talking with the majority of people I live around that define their lives/personalities based on what kinds of tv/music/movies they like. One of my best friends just spend 5000 dollars on a huge plasma tv. It's crazy.

Well, that's slightly different, because here in America, any sort of notions of self worth and success MUST be tied in to financial success, so the acquisition of expensive goods is basically like a peacock showing off their feathers. Not to mention that watching TV/DVDs is a more widely popular pastime than LARP.

I think live RPG is a nice and innocent way to spend your free time. You learn lots of skills (sewing, mock-fighting, medieval cooking), learn something about history and costumes, get some social skills and have a good time. For a hobby it's very versatile.
I did live RPG once or twice when I was sixteen, and even managed to snag two cute boys in the process.

I think it's already been established though, that Eline is BY FAR one of the coolest girls that any of us know, and that yes, if more girls were like Eline, this world would be that much closer to utopia.Professor Smooth wrote:See? See?
