Which is very annoying...
Or "it's much more quiet here today" if you are my boyfriend
got the same virus (flu/cold-type thing) as my boyfriend had last week, but as a special bonus I've lost my voice.
I did have it once before but then it was funny: I had a wild party and for some mysterious reason did not have a hangover but only lost my voice! Nice.
Has anyone had this? And do you know what will solve this or how long it takes before it comes back?
I really miss talking...

Either that or just way for the ilness to pass its time.
Take care!

You've lost your voice completely? Or just a spooky big loss in volume? I've had the latter (very briefly, like for not even 2 days) once, during a bad cold/flu thing. It just came back during the second day on it's own schedule.
If it's a total loss and/or you have pain, maybe get it checked out with your doc.
Hope it comes back and you feel better soon!

It's been proven that smacking you boyfriend about the head is good exercise for getting your voice back.Eline wrote:Which is very annoying...

Seriously though, watching what you eat also helps.

Thanks guys! I'll just take it easy and hope it is back tomorrow, because today it's still gone. That looks like an interesting comic!
Aaron: what do you mean by "watching what you eat also helps." ?
I am drinking tea with honey, eating liqorice to soothe my throat and drinking cough medicine and some herbal thyme-honey syrup.
I can still whisper but that is not so useful. One of the nice things about being sick is that you can lie on the couch and call people and have a nice chat.KingMob wrote:You've lost your voice completely? Or just a spooky big loss in volume? I read that too, but since I don't know sign language it's the best option to tell my boyfriend that I want a cup of tea with honey. But I am trying not to whisper that much.Obfleur wrote:Isn't whispering more harmful to your throat, than talking?
I thought I read that somewhere when I lost my voice.

Sounds like you're on a good start. Basically, avoid anything fried, salty, spicy or oily. Or anything too cold like ice cream. Drinks with too much sugar could dry out your throat, so go easy on the honey for starters.Eline wrote:Aaron: what do you mean by "watching what you eat also helps." ?

Throw in something about cutting your hair and having more kids, and you may as well be talking to my mom.

You should get one of those neck-warbler things that people who've had trachaeotomies use to replace the function of their larynxes. Gives yours a rest and a chance to recover, and brings the added benefit of having an electronic edge to your voice.
You could then tell everyone over the phone that you've been assimilated by the Borg/upgraded to Human.2, etc.
Or not.
