I nearly died!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I nearly died!

Post by Kaylee » Wed Oct 25, 2006 1:50 pm

Doing 70-75, back tyre blew out. My car spun rightways (wheel went out of my hand), front ploughed into the central reservation destroying the engine and most everything else. Then rolled onto its side and flipped over. Four times. I still remember seeing the road spinning round through the windscreen. Before skidding 200 yards until eventually it came to a halt.

All during, I didn't scream or yell or even move. I just hung onto the wheel and fully expected to be dead within 20 seconds.

Eventually though, when the car stopped moving, I climbed out the sunroof, dusted myself down, and didn't have a single scratch. I moved away from the car as quick as possible in case the engine went up.

The car is a total wreck, and I only had it a week, but I'm not too bothered. I'm not going to walk away from something like that and complain, by my counts that should have killed me three times over and yet I got out without so much as a cut or bruise. Even the ambulance people said it was amazing.

Like one of my friends said- if he ever meets my guardian angel, he owes him a coke. I think I owe him a coke too.

I still can't believe I'm not dead. I walked up through the bits of broken glass, plastic and metal that were strewn back up the highway and thought "That could have been me".

Copper reckons my seat belt saved me more than anything else. I think I was also damn lucky. Don't suppose I'll be travelling over 50mph for a while now.

People stopped in the road to make sure I was alright and were all astounded I got away unscathed. One chap and his wife said they'd seen the whole thing from the opposite side of the road and had come all the way back to make sure I was alive- they'd seen the car fly 200 yards over the asphalt on its side with sparks flying from the back.

Car was 3rd party, fire and theft and since (luckily) nobody else was involved, insurance won't pay me anything. Also had to pay to have the car taken away and scrapped.

Like I said though, I don't think I'll grumble. I'm alive when be all rights I should be on a mortuary slab.

One guy who pulled up actually shook me by the hand when he heard the car had flipped over four times and that I'd got away totally unscathed!

I'm glad I'm alright too, it could have been much MUCH worse. I have pictures on my phone if I can work out how to get them off of it...

Congratulations to you LIFE!! :)

I guess this should put any suicidal thoughts away for the moment, no?

Seems like some kind of higher forces wants you alive, for some purpose or another.

And we want pictures! :D Maybe some of the brit-lads that live the closest to you, can meet up with you asap, and help you out with that, and possibly other things?

Congratulations indeed :) My friends have all told me I must be one of the luckiest sons of bitches to ever live. Or possibly I really am magical/indestructible...

When I got out of the car, and a nice van driver asked me if I was alright, I just started laughing. I laughed and laughed and laughed- the man must have thought I was mad- I looked up at the sky (it was about 1am) and yelled out "I'm alive!"

Desperately lucky!

Trying to fenagle the pictures now...

hahaha not half as glad as I am! :)

The sunroof is still open in the pics from where I climbed out of it! The righthand side is the one that scraped along the road, it's the one with the huge scratches down it o.O the other side just has dinks where it rolled over.

It's a charmed life I lead :)

Wow Karl. Glad to hear you're OK! It must be crazy to look at the car and think, "I was IN that."

Karl, ever consider a career in stock car racing? :D

Funny, the damage doesn't look so bad from out here.

Karl, that's amazing. The world is a better place as long as you're still around.

I was actually in a similar situation a few years ago... horrible crash in a blizzard, and I stepped out then was run over by a pickup truck ON THE FREEWAY. I came through it without any scratches-- just fell down and rolled right underneath the truck.

That's one hardcore car. :) I'm pretty sure with some replacement of a few choice parts, one could make it run again.

Immagine that, drivin' on the freeway with something like that? Keerazzy.

Also: Sprunkner got run down by a pickup-truck?! How does that work? I only thought stuntguys, or spider-man, had the reflexes to dodge down enough to be unschathed..
