Veronica Mars

Just finished season 2. Fab, fab stuff.
It's Buffy, crossed with CSI. Less the monsters and forensic stuff.
So, not much like either, really.
Smart, witty, intelligent, drop dead fantastic. Teen school crimebusting mystery stuff. Really really good.
Will try to keep this spoiler free. Bloody shame it's not out on R2 and I had to import, but well worth it. Genuinely torn as to whether I should download season 3 as it airs or wait a year and watch it all in one go.
Would recommend it to anybody who enjoys intelligent postmoderny television and isn't pretentious enough to say "oh, it's set at a school and aimed mainly at teens, therefore it's kids stuff."
Logan Echolls is a legend.
I love Mac.
As great as season one was, I thought season 2 was even better. Least of all by managing to pull off a much more complex mystery. It's not as straight-forward a who-dunnit due to the number of possible targets. Also, balanced it with carrying on the storylines from the first season... unlike certain shows that essentially draw a line under the previous year's events. Actual continuation! Whoo.
Plus it had Charisma Carpenter skipping about with very few clothes on.
Yay.

*bump*
One of the best things about this place is that people point you towards good stuff.
And Veronica Mars is great.
I love how after 50 episodes it's still very strong character-wise and mystery-of-the-week-wise, but must confess that resolution of the second's season main arc let me down a bit as I found it too much a stretch. Whereas the solution of Lilly's murder was one of the best ideas I have seen.
THERE MAY BE SPOILERS DOWN HERE FOR CURRENT EPS.
Tomorrow the case of the Hearst's rapist is supposed to be solved. Any theories on the culprit's identity? Mercer? Moe? Piz? It's all a hoax? The feminists?

Yay for Veronica Mars! The writer's from my town.
Best First wrote:I thought we could just meander between making well thought out points, being needlessly immature, provocative and generalist, then veer into caring about constructive debate and make a few valid points, act civil for a bit, then lower the tone again, then act offended when we get called on it, then dictate what it is and isn't worth debating, reinterpret a few of my own posts through a less offensive lens, then jaunt down whatever other path our seemingly volatile mood took us in.
... bizarre - I've just this minute watched last week's ep. Poor Logan - should've left her a voicemail. "Yeah... I'm stood right across from you..."
Resolution of season 1 was great... know what you mean about season 2... it sort of makes sense, but the series took too many wild turns to get there. Hard to actually sleuth it out before the last episode. Whereas Lilly's killer makes perfect sense from evidence as far back as a few episodes in.
The rapist's an odd one. It's got to be somebody we've already met, or it'll feel a let down. Not Mercer... Piz wasn't there last year... I'm inclined to say it's either the RA (the Galactica fan) or the psych professor.
My only gripe about season 3 is the almost complete lack of Mac. She's meant to be a regular, dammit.
[EDIT] Oh, and the fact that nobody's even commented on what happened to Aaron at the end of season 2... you'd think it would have been huge news, all things considered...

Cassidy being behind it all was neatly explained, but I'm still surprised that 16-year old kid could arrange all that. Gotta give more credit to American youths.
Still, I wonder why Woody told his daughter not to get back to school on the bus. He couldn't have suspected anything, could he? I was quite sure he would be revealed behind it for motives which were still in the dark.
Piz might be the rapist cause I think he's the only one who wasn't suspected yet and judging by previous seasons that seems to be the way. Mercer alibi's from Tijuana might be worthless if the rape that occured then (Nancy, the black feminist?) was a fake. BG Fan is the main suspect on VM site I read yesterday mostly because he admitted the prisoners-guards experiment was lifechanging for him.
Psych professor? The one who's banging the Dean's wife? I think they might do something with him later.
Gutted for Logan, too. And he really tries this time. Great moment when he pointed to Veronica that she wants him to change but she herself does not want to.
As for Aaron, I gather that during the summer everybody dealt with it and said "good riddance". Everybody hated him anyway.

I figure it might be due to the fact that he was being blackmailed over molesting three of the students on the bus... and wanted Gia as far away from them as possible so they didn't spill the beans. Can't recall if the sound file with Beaver removed was sent before the bus crash or not... if it was, then Woody may have been trying to keep her away from the two who were threatening him.Ozz wrote:Still, I wonder why Woody told his daughter not to get back to school on the bus. But he was presenting a call-in radio show at the times of the other rapes... and was locked up when Shadowy Guy drugged Veronica.Mercer alibi's from Tijuana might be worthless if the rape that occured then (Nancy, the black feminist?) was a fake.
There's that and the fact that he has keys to all the rooms.BG Fan is the main suspect on VM site I read yesterday mostly because he admitted the prisoners-guards experiment was lifechanging for him.
Yeah. It's got the edge on Buffy for me in that regard - people let Summers get away with being a brat because she regularly saved their lives. On VM, people are more than willing to call her on it if she's being a self-righteous snot. See also Wallace running off in season 2. Quality stuff.Gutted for Logan, too. Still... A List movie star is cleared of the murder of his son's girlfriend... then found shot dead in his hotel room. That's tabloid gossip gold. I'd expected at the very least an overheard "hunt for killer still at large" news soundbyte. Still time, I guess. As for Aaron, I gather that during the summer everybody dealt with it and said "good riddance". Everybody hated him anyway.

Beaver sent e-mail after he found out his purchases would be of little worth after incorporation, so he wanted to force Woody to sabotage whole project.Brendocon wrote:I figure it might be due to the fact that he was being blackmailed over molesting three of the students on the bus... and wanted Gia as far away from them as possible so they didn't spill the beans. I don't recall the other two boys trying to blackmail Woody before the crash.
That one bugs me. You're a rapist who also shaves victims' heads. You don't start with shaving the girl's head in a parking lot when someone may interrupt you, you take her somewhere and then do the deed. Besides, all the other girls weren't cut during their shave (to my recall), while Veronica's shave was merely started and she bled already. Like it wasn't the same person. And Veronica wasn't drugged at the party, either.Brendocon wrote:But he was presenting a call-in radio show at the times of the other rapes... and was locked up when Shadowy Guy drugged Veronica.
And maybe it is possible to stage a call-in radio show. That would open a possibility for Mercer being the rapist.
I also wonder if those feminists aren't more involved in the whole case than we think, but that would really be a stretch.
Even gossip that huge might get old in three months. Wasn't it implied that Logan refused to participate in several talk-shows?Brendocon wrote:Still... Was away for weekend and had to wait until esterday to see it.
Resolution of the mystery was done really well.
Except they didn't outright tell why Mercer's Tijuana alibi was a hoax.
Was it mentioned at some point that Mercer too was participating in prisoner-guard experiment?
EDIT: The picture of them together in the outfits. Duh.
Logan is great, especially at the end.
But I liked the Dean, damn it.

Yeah, that bugged me too. The Wiki entry for the ep seems to imply he was in Tijuana for rapes that the Lilith House chicks faked... not entirely sure where they got that from. I'd hope they expand on it a bit after the midseason break...Ozz wrote:Except they didn't outright tell why Mercer's Tijuana alibi was a hoax.
One thing that slightly worries me is that, as they normally actually leave a week plotwise between episodes, they'll leave a couple of months in the timeline. Hope not.
I genuinely hope the Lililth House girls get locked up for obstruction of justice. Taking advantage of Mercer's activities just to get the fratboys kicked out? Pretty sick.
I didn't actually get that they were in outfits. Damn my lo-res screen. Guessed what it was about, though. Loved how Mor kept calling Mercer "sir"...Was it mentioned at some point that Mercer too was participating in prisoner-guard experiment?

My sound was jumpy all the way through - did Mercer's show jump during the Chicks on Speed bit? I wasn't sure if that was Teh Clue or just dodgy encoding.
Yeah. Not a word. So many other shows/characters would have made some speech... nah, he just stands there and it's obvious. Love it.Logan is great, especially at the end.
And the Dean was cool. Though hopefully a murder means more of Sheriff Lamb, who's always value for money.
Dammit. I have to wait far too long for this and Lost. Not fair!

Wiki is done by fans and that's a popular theory, so...Brendocon wrote:Yeah, that bugged me too. The Wiki entry for the ep seems to imply he was in Tijuana for rapes that the Lilith House chicks faked... not entirely sure where they got that from.
But it would be good if they outright said it on screen.
Never noticed that. But they probably won't, cause too much would happen after Dean's death. Unless they'd go for retrospections, like in first episode of second season.Brendocon wrote:One thing that slightly worries me is that, as they normally actually leave a week plotwise between episodes, they'll leave a couple of months in the timeline. If not, they're basically on the warpath with Veronica, so I think they'll get theirs sooner or alter. They might even be responsible for killing the Dean, who knows.Brendocon wrote:I genuinely hope the Lililth House girls get locked up for obstruction of justice. I haven't noticed either, I read it later on the website.Brendocon wrote:I didn't actually get that they were in outfits. Damn my lo-res screen.
The tape warped, yes.Brendocon wrote:My sound was jumpy all the way through - did Mercer's show jump during the Chicks on Speed bit?
Lucky for me, I don't watch Lost and have Scrubs again on. In the meantime, I might also catch up on Grey's Anatomy.Brendocon wrote:Dammit. I have to wait far too long for this and Lost. Not fair!

Glad they've acknowledged that the Dean shows up dead shortly after his lurve rival was given a stack of papers on how to commit the perfect murder.
And I wanted the monkey to be called Ampersand, dammit!
VM's back. BSG's back. Not long till Lost's back. Yayyyyyyyyyy.
