Transformers.com Board

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Ive checked in a few minutes ago, and many of the topics really make me want to puke because of the "creators" answers or the "common" knowledge!!!

Ah, Outback. The first Autobot except Wreck-Gar that I thought sounded british. British roboots are foony! :D Judge my surprise when I realized that it was just distorted and garbled Aussie-accent...

the pattern i am seeing though is that you seem to get (very roughly) 3 types of people:

1) The sycophants, who ask brain dead questions and swallow whetever they are told. There are usuallyu some sycophants who seem a bit more reasonable than others but at the end of the day are stil just trying to cosy up to the director/producer, whatever. These people will probably address the 'celebrity' by their first name as if the are mates
2) The overly nagative, who just turn up and swear a lot and discount things out of hand before they have a chance to really see them. These people also tend to insist they know the franchise better than anyone else and will almost certainly at some point mention how long they have been a fan of said franchise
3) The reasonable people who care about the property and want to challenge some of the thinking and are willing to push back on empty answers but do their best to keep their cool at the same time. These people invariably give up due to the actions of 1) and 2).

The problem is that 3) are the people that should be being listened too, but 1) will always jump in and lump them with 2), as sometimes will the 'celeb' (Bay is a classic for this, anyone who criticises is a 'hater' and dismissed out of hand - his responses to Siebertron's recent comments is a great example).

So essentially, even though its is 'good' of these people to talk to the fans i think it becomes a fairly pointless exercise in most cases due to the above dynamic.

Of course this is amplied even more with TFs given the diverse range of opinions on what are the core elements of the TF franchise.

Paul, you're so right. You tell it like it is, man! Can I have your babies? Or, alternatively, major consulting credit on your next project?

Shut the [composite word including 'f*ck'] up. I've been a Transformers fan since 1967, and I've been on the internet since 1973, and you're talking bollocks with that. I know what makes this fandom work - and you're killing it with this attitude towards the people who make it what it is - the REAL FANS like me who can quote every line from City of Steel and know that the REAL Transformers The Movie is better than Godfather Part II due to the soundtrack.
3) The reasonable people who care about the property and want to challenge some of the thinking and are willing to push back on empty answers but do their best to keep their cool at the same time. These people invariably give up due to the actions of 1) and 2).
Fair comment... but maybe don't write off so many people. A lot of the other groups are just naive and need a good smack round the head to give 'em some perspective.

Which, of course, we all know is the Ladybird books.

Pretty much so, yeah. This happens a lot at the IDW forums. Some won't criticise a thing, others love taking the chance to take a shot at the makers whilst they can. But I admire the company's approach when dealing with fans even if results will always be mixed. Dreamwave were the complete opposite.

i think IDW have made a better fist of it than most, but its still a bit too back slappy for my liking.

Agree about the Ladybord books. The first movie will only be a Transformers film if it is a page for page adaption of Autobot's Lightning Strike.
