Need advice!

How on Earth do you tell someone who is messed up in the head (to the point of trying to (or at least claiming to have) overdosed on pills and wine) that you want them to move out of your shared flat?

Tough one.

I'd sit them down and just say that it's not working out and that they have to find somewhere else. Mention the overdose thing and ask if they would want to live with someone who did that.

Or, move all their stuff out and change the locks.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Thanks, yes i think we're going to have a sit down and talk to her about all this. she's been a nightmare since she moved in the other month... tried to over look a lot of the problems, but this really is the last straw.

my concern is that she will go seriously mental when told we want her to leave... :(

Find out her mum's number, ring her, tell mother you're worried.

Parents will come round and cart her off.

I've had bad situations like this - like the girl who told everyone she was moving out next month, but when I started showing potential new housemates around the house to try and fill the soon-to-be-empty room she went ballistic (in front of the potentials) saying "I never said I was moving out, how dare you try and force me out of my home!" etc. etc. etc. She used to come in drunk and hurl abuse at the other female flatmates for hours because she thought they "looked at her like she was a piece of ****".

She's gone now.

*bliss*

[edit] of course I didn't even mention the nightmare that ensued when, a few weeks after she moved out, I took all the old bags of clothes and junk out of the communual cupboards to the charity shop, only to get a message from her that very evening saying she was coming over "to pick the rest of her stuff up".

As I am still alive to type this, you can assume she wasn't too fussed about the old clothes, although we still had an hours-long screaming fit because after the thrid time she told me how much was owing on the electricity bill (imagine the drunk Welsh accent: "No, Rob, you're not lissshhhening to me, you have to pay twenty-sixsssh poundsssh! No, listen to me, will you, you have to pay twenty-sixsssh poundsssshh...") I said: "Yeah, yeah, I'll pay it, shut up." Hell ensued, in the end she was standing in the street screaming at the house, and possibly life in general, and more specifically the only friend who had the slightest ounce of sympathy for her.

The way you deal with women like that is trip them over onto a strategically placed typewriteer.

Yes, could call the folks - although she is adamant that she can't go home - am hoping that when her boyfriend gets back from holiday next week that he can take her in hand...

Oh, and don't forget to say 'Hi' to her from all of us, while she's secretly reading all your posts like the paranoid she is.

Or was that one of Rob's ex-flatmates...

Print out A4 sheets with "TAKE YOUR PSYCHO ******** ELSEWHERE" on them in funky colours, and pin them up in assorted places around the flat.

When she asks what they are, act like you have no idea what she's talking about.

There are no pieces of paper. Even when she physically smacks you about the head with them, tell her you have no idea what she's talking about and please stop hitting me with that fish - it's really unhygenic.

She'll think you're the crazy ones and leave of her own accord.

Or wait until she's gone out, pack all her stuff into boxes, then when she gets back tell her off for not saying she was moving out. Get all offended and say "well now we don't want you living with us if you can't even tell us you're leaving."
Grrr. Argh.

If you have something difficult to tell her, you might want to consider getting someone she admires and trusts to talk to her about it...

I just got a letter through telling me that someone I live with missed a council tax payment so we have to pay the rest of the year in one go, plus a £123 arbitary chanrge. Living alone is looking like the better option right now.

That's the killer init? Although when you're living alone, you don't have anyone to share those sorts of bills with!

I love living alone.

Okay, on one hand I've only myself to blame if the washing up hasn't been done... but on the flipside I can actually watch television in peace.

I hate the rent and bills of living alone.

I hate the "Who the hell at all my food/used all the clean dishes/made the living room into their own personal shoe closet/left on the TV all night" of living with others.

I'll have to agree with the 'living alone' crowd-I really do value my freedom nowadays, to the point where I don't want to be in another relationship because I can't be bothered to put up with someone elses ****.

I've done both.
Living alone is boring often and theres not anyone that can instantly be spoken to if you wanna say something clever or just start conversation.
On the other hand you don't have to worry about being walked in on with a date or havig your things taken.

With a horrible room mate all I'd do is sit down and tell them what problems are being caused, and that you don't think theres any easy way to resolve said problems.

I had a room mate from hell once who lied to everyone about me and my best friend at the time (her bf ), said we were planning to rape and kill a girl from our class. We even got to have a little chat with the state police chief about that one. We were so shocked when he told us why he called us, that he figured out pretty fast she was blowing smoke.

I talk to myself all the time. Always have. I laugh at some of the stuff I say as well. No one gets me like me-I have a great time...together.

Coming, mother.
