dvd player on pc

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

dvd player on pc

Post by snarl » Fri Aug 04, 2006 6:59 pm

For no reason, my pc now plays dvds ultra jerky.

I have no idea why and have been unable to find no reason how to fix it - funnily enough, if I play a section jerkily then wind it back, the section then plays fine...

Any ideas chaps?

What DVD playing software are you using?

Standard things-

Try removing and then reinstalling your DVD software.
Try installing the most recent drivers for your graphics card (nVidia and ATI [two very common makes] have drivers at their websites, for most others you can snaffle them at www.driverguide.com

Try a different DVD player- I recommend VLC, which is free.

Let us know how they go.

Try putting the pr0n download on pause for the duration of the movie to free up some much-needed memory. ;)

Some DVD software requires a license to activate. But here's really good alternative;

I've also used this program to play movies directly from a .bin file without having to burn it to a CD first or mounting a image.

Already had VLC player installed, was having the exact same problems with it.

Tried the old uninstall / reinstall, cannot find new drivers for my card which I think is ******* odd.

Bollocks.

If you've used multiple DVD players then we can eliminate that as a cause.

Try updating your DirectX drivers from here.

If that still causes the same error, then we'll try looking for a firmware update for your DVD-ROM.

Also, I'd like you to try playing a DVD for me and press CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up System Monitor. There'll be a bunch of graphs on one of the pages, I'd like you to tell me whether the CPU (Processor) graph is stable or if it is at 100'ish%.
