Football Season 2006/07

So we are only a few weeks away from kick-off. How is everyone feeling about their teams chances this season?
As a Liverpool fan I think we have made some shrewd signings this summer. Bellamy is an absolute **** to play against and is a proven premiership player. I think he will do well.
Mark Gonzalez will be a hit if he lives up to his potential. Pennant will give us genuine width on the right and his crosses into the box ratio was the best in the league last season. Those 2 could cause mayhem on the wings if the right tactics are applied.
With Pennant having just signed I do worry about the 'thug' element at the club. He has a checkered past, as does Bellamy and even Fowler to an extent. I think these players may give that cutting edge we have been missing in the past.
Rumours say that Kuyt may be joining soon. If he does then I think we will have a really impressive squad.
League runners-up and winning a cup competition is my prediction. Chelsea have spent big again and signed some quality players.
I think all 3 of the newly promoted teams will struggle to stay up this year.

Going off the back of how strongly we finished last season, the deadwood we've cleared out, the new players we've brought in and the general air of "upness" surrounding the club after Rupert's departure, we should be able to get promoted easily.
Which means another year of midtable mediocrity.
Yay.
On the plus side, we have Pele!
Kelvin Davis is proven at Champ level and should provide decent cover for Bart.
Bale and Surman are scarily awesome already on the left. Dyer should improve after the summer break and a proper pre-season with the first team.
Rasiak was quality at the end of last term. Nice to have kept Belmadi and Jer Wright.
Dave McGoldrick is a name to watch out for.
Yeah. 8th place beckons!

Yeah Robbie is back at Liverpool at scoring goals again about 1 in 3 last season not bad considering he's so out of shape. The thing I don't understand about Pennant is why sign a right winger who can cross for headers when we have just sold the striker we bought to score from headers. Unless the Kuijt rumour really is juist a smoke screen and we're going after the far superior Huntelaar instead.

Pennant can cross, simple as. I think he's ******* good actually, even though he sounds a **** of a person. Imagine he just flights it lower with a bit more whip to it, I've seen him do that plenty of times, Fowler could have a field day driving into the box to poke those home from 6 yards.
I presume it's got to be Alonso and Gerrard in the centre then?
Liverpool may have trouble keeping everybody happy though, esp. if they dont keep up with Chelsea from the word go. You cannot justify to Garcia etc why you're keeping him on the bench when Barca and Real are sniffing around.

It will be Sissoko and Alonso in the centre next season, we have to play a defensive midfielder in there, Gerrard will probably still start most of the games on the right, the reason we were going for Daniel Alves is because we wanted a fullback who would give us width when Gerrard cuts inside, Pennant will be a squad player only, although probably one who gets maybe 30 or so games starting or from the bench much like Garcia.

ahh crap well ManU with carrick will do slightly better, but i still think at this moment, without ruud and ronaldo they'll gona rely too much on rooney and with the horrible midfield they have right now i think they won't end at the top 4 this season.
but the transfer market is still open and with the 15 million from ruud and probably $$$ for ronaldo. who knows.
and i'm kinda bored of seeing the same teams at the top rankings every year.
go Reading !

Well RUdd is off but considering he didnt play most of the season im not to fussed.
Ronaldo hasnt left yet... so i worry about that when and if he does.
Otherwise Carrick only makes UTD stronger and we got scholes back and hes scoring in the pre-seasons.
im not to worried, another striker or another Mid would be great but we wont be outside the top 4.

Totally agree with you there. Players like Garcia, Zenden, Kewell, Riise, Agger, Dudek, Kromkamp and Traore will all feel the pinch of rotation this season.snarl wrote:Liverpool may have trouble keeping everybody happy though, esp. if they dont keep up with Chelsea from the word go. I think we will probably go with a 5 man midfield and 1 upfront
Reina
Aureillo, Hyypia, Carragher, Finnan
Gonzalez, Sissoko, Alonso, Pennant
Gerrard
Bellamy
We have an absurb number of options tactically though. Bellamy, Crouch and Fowler are very different types of striker. Players like Garcia, Kewell and Zenden can turn a game in a flash and for the first time in several years we have backup defenders in Paletta and Agger.

£18.6 million is crazy money. He is a really good player but £18 million worth of good? Fergie must be convinced he is the guy to fill Keane's boots...snarl wrote:You cannot afford Torres, you had to sell RVN to take Carrick.
My people tell me that Rio and Rooney buttered him up at the world cup, could all be bollocks of course.
To be honest, sad to see him go but £17M is ******* aces.

I still think Utd are in that postion where prices are 'inflated' due to being Utd - not as bad as Chelski but its understandable - Im happy we have Carrick I like to see English players at Utd and hopefully it will in turn be good for England.
We still need another mid just to give the squad some back up - and perhaps another striker, Roony and Saha will have a long season otherwise...
