****. I'm trendy.

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

That's not fair! ******* fashionista type bastard rumrunning badger [composite word including 'f*ck']- I had it first! At least two years before, you ******* ****** little [composite word including 'f*ck']!

Arrr.

:o :(

It took me forever to collect/find/convert stuff to the few piratish everyday wear-type clothing items I have. And I was reasonably unique with them- not totally, obviously, but enough for me.

Now... now anyone can just walk into any bloody store and pick something piratical up. This almost turns me right off the entire thing.

edit:
[composite word including 'f*ck']!
... I love the autocensor though...

The link doesn't work? :???:

I do see more and more piratey stuff these days, that's true. And it's putting me off buying this stuff, except maybe for some nice pirate boots that I saw on internet:
http://www.style.com/slideshows/standal ... RE/27m.jpg

It sucks when you have something really cool, and suddenly half the world is wearing it. :(
Or when you've just bought something nice and before you got a chance to wear it, you see someone else in it.

Well, t'be honest it's mostly mock indignation. Doesn't seem to translate very well, though. ;) I had fun giving the autocensor a workout. :D

The link works for me... dunno. Maybe cut & paste it into your browser?

Those are lovely boots. :joy: I had these really kick-ass knee-high boots that zippered up the sides... for about two days. I bought them on a whim when I was back home and gods if I didn't absolutely loooove them. But I had to take them back as I needed to get sensible [and considerably less fun] dress shoes for my sister and I as we had a function to go to.

Damn those were nice boots! They were a size too big, though. I'm horrible when it comes to impulse shopping sometimes, especially when it's something like really bitchin' boots on sale.

Nope. Still doesn't work.

Boots are great. But it takes me years to find one that actually fits... :(
I have nice boots, but they have high heels and sometimes you just need to do stuff so I need something more comfortable.

what aload of cock - The 'pirate look' isnt the fashion that Pirates is based upon its like post classical neoism.

All ruffs and scafs etc...its been done a hundred times - the real pirate look would be rags stinking of fish.

My god my lectures taught me somthing.

Nice boots by the way, the cross leather straps are cowboy based if anything... spurs ?

No worries. When I came back to it, the mock indignation-ity wasn't even clear to me, and I wrote the thing. :o

It's rooted in real mild annoyance though. :( But... at least I'll have an excuse for walking down the street in a pirate hat. If I want to, anyway. Which is a fond idea, but isn't likely...

Latest In Chic: Pirate Garb!
Pirate-Themed Fashions, More "In," As Film Tops Box Office

NEW YORK, July 11, 2006

(CBS) Pirate mania has captured the nation, and we are not just talking about the box office.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" made an opening weekend record $136 million, but the sales don't stop there.

Pirate paraphernalia is all the rage, sailing off the shelves. From head to toe, people are covered in pirate-themed clothing. The trend runs the gamut from expensive designer jewelry and clothing to less expensive fashions, Band Aids and sneakers. You may even see dogs wearing skulls and cross bones!

On The Early Show Tuesday, co-anchors Harry Smith, Rene Syler and Hannah Storm looked over an array of pirate products. To watch the segment, click here.

Actress Phoebe Cates's "Blue Tree" boutique on Manhattan's Madison Avenue provided many of the items in the segment, including:

Pirate key ring $14
Brass skeleton necklace $175
Pendant with anchor hanging off a ribbon $75
Skull tee shirt with the words "P.S. CHANGE THE WORLD" under the -skull $65 (ages 2-16)
Schooner medallion necklace with in white or pink gold 250
Anchor on a 20" chain in yellow gold $265
Double anchor earrings in either yellow gold and silver $90, or in pink gold and silver $110
Skull key ring in handmade silver $245
Vivienne Westwood black tunic with lace sleeves and gold dots $422

You can even get some pricey jewelry with this theme from, for instance, Los Angeles-based Sydney Evan.
Web site: www.18jewels.com
18K earrings in white gold with pave diamonds and retail for: $700.00
18K necklace in yellow gold with pave diamonds and retails for: $1230.00

There are several clothing items with this theme: MARC ECKO Skull Tee: $29 Floral print skull and cross-pin appliqué on a solid black background. Cotton. Imported.

Five BEJEWELED by SUSAN FIXEL T-shirts, ranging in price from $97 to $125.
Web site: Online Retailer: www.electricladyland.com

You can find these items at high end fashion stores such as Henri Bendel:
Leila black printed skull headband with rhinestones $48
Mio black chainlink bracelet with skull charms $118
Rachel Abrams cluster charm necklace $198
Splendid striped leggings $58
Jet striped racerback tank top $58
C&C California burgundy striped boatneck top $78
Henri Bendel 712 Fifth Avenue at 56th Street 1.800.H.BENDEL

Other items:

Doggie products in the segment were provided by Kwigy-bo Luxuries for Dogs.

Also seen:

"Cereal Killer" T-Shirt, available at Steve & Barry’s, for $7.98. Thiks one has spoons instead of crossbones beneath a skull!
VS PINK skull low rise boy briefs, $8.50
ALDO skull ski cap, Ski cap - $10
ALDO bone pendant, $15
ALDO skull scarf bag, $39.99

Jewelry from Tarina Tarantino:
crystal pave skull pendant on gold chain, $138
crystal enameled heart and skull in jet, $113
lucite skull and Swarovski bracelet, $70
Some of that stuff sounds pretty nifty actually. :o I have a few necklaces similar to a couple mentioned. And one big necklace I found that is made of fake coins that I'm dead fond of.
But it takes me years to find one that actually fits... :(

I love boots. But that's my biggest problem with most I like... the heels. They look great, but kill the feet if you actually try and walk in them.

It's a pirate look so far as it's what people think of when they think of pirates. And yeah, it's been reinvented a few times. I think almost every "look" has. What's the big deal?

You studied pirate fashion?

I have some pics of me and the missus dressed as pirates somewhere, from our canal boating holiday last year. I imagine the costumes will come out again this year :)

we study design - and that includes fashion, so many styles come around and around. the common idea that nothing new is invented any more, just re-designed...

Its just one of them lil irks I have due to what I know, fashion mags will say 'the pirate look is in!' (because a film is popular) - when the the actuall style the film used isnt pirate fashion at all, just somthing that looked 'cool' - Its splitting hairs of course and doesnt really matter!

If there's a TransFest '06, that has to be a must-do.

But it'll never beat Batman's guest appearance last year. ;)
