Chrissy's been crying for three days since seeing this movie. About the Rwandan genocide of 1994. Horrible, sickening stuff.
I haven't seen any of the other famous genocide flicks, like Killing Fields. This article here: http://www.cbc.ca/arts/film/genocide.html talks a bit about the challenges of such a movie. The problem that showing horrible atrocities in a movie might make it seem like just another part of a movie.
There's a line in this flick where a news reporter, having captured some pretty horrible footage, shows it to one of the natives. The native Rwandan says, "Maybe people will see this and we will get some help." The reporter, visibly troubled, says, "Or maybe they'll just say, 'That's horrible,' and go back to eating their dinner."
