Driving Test today!

Good luck. :)

Just try and stay calm and alert. And check the mirrors. Always check the mirrors. Constantly.

But only on the test.

I think I've checked mine twice since I passed... :lurk:

But, yeah - good luck. :)
Grrr. Argh.

Good luck :)

Drive on the left. Somebody didn't like the way the Colonies did it...

Seriously, try not to stress too much. Driving becomes second nature to most people just after a few weeks of practice. Just sit back, follow traffic, don't be a nuisance, check mirrors and blind spot, and you'll be fine.

In all seriousness, I wonder who thought it would be a good idea to change it in the first place?

I must know.

It's probably too late, but the best advice is just be calm. It's no biggy- if it goes wrong just take it again. Also their passing system is decidedly odd at the best of times, so if they do fail you it's not necessarily because you're a bad driver. I had to do eight tests- and by the time I passed I'd done at least 3 tests that were better than the one they passed me for (one one occassion I was failed for not looking in my rear-view mirror when I stopped at a red light). Some days they just look for excuses to fail you and others they turn a blind eye to them (one guy I used to know rode up onto the kerb whilst doing his reverse parking and still passed with like 2 minor faults). So yar, just take it easy and if it comes out good then  if not, don't let it bother you; just try again next time and you'll either have learnt from any mistakes you might have made or perhaps the examiner will be more amenable that day. :) Best of luck

Good luck! :)

And what Karl says. It's sometimes as much based on luck as on skill.

I have my third exam next week :(
The first one I was too nervous to do anything right, the second one was quite okay but I made too many small mistakes which I thought/hoped the exam guy wouldn't notice.

The French - when they had their little revolution-thingie. They thought doing things the 'imperial way' was stupid and had to do them in the 'revolutionary way' instead. The Colonies followed suit and soon so did every other republic (except Ireland).

As someone who is in the process of trying to get his driving license, how long did it take various peeps in terms of time/amount of lessons/tests etc?

6 years*, 10 practical tests, 2 theory tests (only because I didn't pass my practical within the period of the first theory pass!), number of lessons unknown.

*Only because there was a several years-drought between my early and later driving lessons - otherwise it would've been 2 years.

In Sweden it's quite normal to buy a "drivers license package".
It contains a bunch of crap, and 23 driving lessons. Each lesson is 45 minutes.
A lot of people have to take a couple of extra lessons though - so 30 lessons would be considered perfectly normal here :)
Can't believe I'm still here.

My instructor put me in for my first test after one lesson. In the end it took 5 tests. About 30 lessons. Just glad it's all over with now, 'cause I got given a car for free and my company pays for all the petrol I use. Booyah.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Thanks gents. :)

I'm thinking of doing a 20 hour intensive course, and my dad has also put me on his insurance so I can get to grips with the basics and get extra practice in as well-hopefully it will be enough, but I'll just have to wait and see!

I guess the rules for those things are different over there? When I was 15 all I did was take maybe 6 text based classes followed by 6 behind the wheel experiences, and a drive with my parent AND instructor, so he could tell her what my problem areas were. 4 months later, got the license first try. It sounds harder, or more in depth than my own experience.
