I like music. How 'bout you?

If the last 3 'Head albums weren't your bag, don't buy it.

But I think its pretty cool.
But what if one, say, liked Kid A, thought Amnesiac was brill...but Hail to the Thief was utter tosh? Will it be Amnesiac great or a mixture of all 3 in tone? Oh noes I have now been confuzzled.[/i]
Really? I thought Thief was pretty good, and Amnesiac the weakest of the three. :)

Didn't hear any guitars on The Eraser, so its more Kid A than Thief.

Can't see any Number 1 hits on it thats for sure. ;)

Thankyou, spidey! :)

TBH I really should give Thief another listen, it has been ages, but when it came out I found it to be really somewhat unexciting and unmoving, making it a disappointment in relation to the two previous albums, and haven't really returned to it.

I thought Thief was really up and down. There was amazing stuff like 2+2=5 and A Punch-Up at a Wedding and then there was stuff like Backdrifting... bleah. I liked how it was so angry and guitar-ridden; it felt so punk rock! Still like Amnesiac better of the three.

I like Backdrifting. Only naff tune on there IMO is The Gloaming. And there's something a bit grating about We Suck Young Blood.

I would have preferred a double album when it came to Kid A and Amnesiac. They could've called it, uh... Kid Amnesiac.

Actually, I would have much preferred a quadruple album called OK, Hail Kid Amnesiac.

Kids; sell out as soon as you possibly can.
Ah, the late, great Tom Lehrer wrote a song about this. Let me see if I can find it.

SELLING OUT

Selling out
is easy to do.
It's not so hard
to find a buyer for you.
When money talks,
you're under its spell.
Ah, but whaddya have when there's nothing left to sell?

Selling out (I'd rather call it compromise)
is easy to do (sometimes you have to close your eyes).
It's not so hard (being rich is no disgrace)
to find a buyer for you (put on your shoes and join the race).
When money talks (it has a very soothing voice)
you're under its spell (it's up to you to make the choice).
Ah, but whaddya have when there's nothing left to sell?
(Before you know it there'll be nothing left to sell.)
[Last two lines come simultaneously]

You can't always break the rules.
People who try are fools.
When you get older, maybe then you will see.
I've always found ideals
don't take the place of meals.
And that's how it is and how it will always be.

It's so nice to have integrity,
I'll tell you why.
If you really have integrity,
it means your price is very high.
So remember when you start to preach and moralize,
that we all are in the game, and brother its name is compromise.

[Repeat all verses simultaneously]
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Lyrically, they're much less "sellout" than his gospel albums. The Clash supposedly sold out on Combat Rock, but they had Allen Ginsberg on the album. Allen Ginsberg, dude, come on-- that's the definition of not selling out. And even those who supposedly represent youth culture, like Green Day, who play enormous concerts, sell tons of merchandise, and get heavy airplay, are at least acting like they have something worth promoting. Given the lyrical content of American Idiot, I think they're right. Better to have a hundred thousand people per day hear the song "Holiday" and maybe spend some time thinking about what the idiotic Bush administration is doing than to confine your political statement to your own scene and your own friends, who probably all agree with you in the first place.

Brain...exploding...NOOOOOOO!!! :( Look, it sucks that they're charging up the ass for thier shows now. It sucked when they(without Rotten, though) teamed up-up with a thief for "The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle." But at least they used to stand for something. "Nevermind The Bollocks" still owns your ass, and you know it.

To be fair, he did go on the show, cause a stir, say c*nt on live TV and then walk out. Was funny.

Without 'Never Mind the Bollocks' music now would be very very dull indeed.

isn't thata bit of a falcy though? Punk could have happend/was happening without/before the Pistol's and musically bands like the Clash and the Ramones are probably more influential i would have thought.

i think the Pistol's impact was, if anythig, more a cultural one than a musical one.

I heard Thom Yorke's Eraser!

Eh.

On the first song, he sounds like Prince. And I'm not just saying that for snarl, he really does.
Rest of it was alright, I 'ope it's a grower though.

Musically, I prefer the Ramones to the Pistols. In terms of British culture certainly, I think BF has a point. American punk would have influenced British musical scene in some form, no? Can't say how different things would be, but boring? Don't quite see that, sorry.

Whilst I prefer The Ramones and The Clash I feel music/fashion/attitude came together with The Pistols more than any other. Certainly a watershed band and the face of the 'punk ethic' that has lasted to this day.

The Clash, "The Clash."

The Clash, "The Clash."

THE ****IN' CLASH, "The Clash!"

So much more complex, both lyrically and musically. A band that used their fame to actually promote something worthwhile. As a result, they became one of the most long-term important bands in history, rather than just a shock and a quick fadeaway. The Clash. "The Clash."

I need to get "The Eraser." I've been bad lately about buying all my music off iTunes, but Thom doesn't seem to like them.

PS- Green Day do, and always have, pwned everything on the radio. Just because they make money off what they like to do, don't knock their brilliance.

You can't go wrong with any single from The Bends or OK Computer. The B Sides to these singles are, without exception, excellent.

The My Iron Lung EP has some pretty good tunes too. They also released a single called 'Pop Is Dead' which never appeared on an album.

THRILLER! :D

I recently played Moonwalker on the Sega Mega Drive to the sweet robot-transformation end, and now I'm hooked on the lad.

Billy Jean, Starting Something, Beat it, Thriller they're doubleplus good! ^^

So.. anybody care to recommend some of his other albums?

Nice choices.

Sign me up for Coldcut, Art of Noise, 808 State and, slightly differently, the best from the Electro scene: Grandmasters Flash, Melle Mel, and Run DMC.

I'm waiting for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's new album that drops on May 1. Their last album Howl was absolutely brilliant, though the new one isn't going to be too much like it, more a mix of their old alt rock sound and the folk/blues/country/roots/gospel sound of Howl.

I've been digging around in my old U2 catalogue again, and I don't find All That You Can't Leave Behind as disappointing as I used to, a few pretty good tracks, but going back to the funky experimental 90s stuff (Zooropa and the Passengers project are brilliant), or the pure gold that was the Joshua Tree and Unforgettable Fire... I still can't shake the feeling their best days are gone.

The new Modest Mouse album is pretty sweet, if you like MM.
