I've heard of Muse, but it's yet another band I've not actually heard.

If he appears to you, tell him I want tickets to the LA show.

And a free copy of "The Eraser."

And a magic 8-ball that looks like his head.

Yes. I'd rather have that than tickets to a show in LA...

Ha! I already got it!

*runs away from Sadie with Yorkeheadball*

So... have you been up all night, or is this an early thing? It could be time for a caffeine-off. I'm on my second Frappuccino and I'm really starting to hate them. Bought them in bulk for work. I also had a Starbucks doubleshot and a 16-oz Coke. I am a caffeinated corporate whore.

PS- You are not getting the Yorkeheadballback.

I've had... green tea. You win. :( :p

As much fun as it sounds I sadly cannot participate in a caffeine-off... I have to sleep as I work this eve. I'm nocturnal... sunlight! It burns!

I like the Dead Kennedys, Lard, Bad Religion, Rage Against The Machine, the Sex Pistols, and alot of other stuff. Music rules. It is the one thing that has kept me sane throughout my life. But does anybody here NOT work promoting Clear Channel? Led Zepplin? Ozzy? The Strokes? C'mon man.

No offense, but I think Ozzy hasn't done anything worthwhile since "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." He had that Mtv show, he killed animals, he convorted with Bush. That **** ain't cool and it sure as [composite word including 'f*ck'] ain't rock n roll. Ozzy can lick me arse.

He's been also occasionally releasing new albums during those 30 years, by I guess that's not what this topic is about after all.

Hmmm...I'm currently listening to:
new Muse song
new Keane song
complete Orbital discography :D :D :D
best of Curve
I'm Your Fan - Leonard Cohen songs covered by The House of Love, Ian McCulloch, Pixies, That Petrol Emotion, The Lilac Time, Geoffrey Oryema, James, Jean-Louis Murat, David McComb & Adam Peters, R.E.M., Lloyd Cole, Robert Forster, Peter Astor, Dead Famous People, Bill Pritchard, Fatima Mansions, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and John Cale
Tower of Song - Leonard Cohen songs covered by Don Henley, Trisha Yearwood, Sting with The Chieftains, Bono, Tori Amos, Aaron Neville, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, Jann Arden, Suzanne Vega and Martin Gore
more Leonard Cohen covers by Johnny Cash, Aaron Neville (again), Marianne Faithfull, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Madeleine Peyroux, Bob Dylan and k.d. lang
Leonard Cohen (always)
Queen
The Sisters of Mercy

Some conclusions I've reached:
I quite like the new Keane and Muse stuff.
Leonard Cohen is a million times better than most people who cover his work.
I now really, really like Tori Amos' music despite having hated it for most of my life.
Bono is a prize tosser. He covers Hallelujah but doesn't sing, instead he recites the lyrics in a faux-serious voice over ambient soundscapes. Just listening to it makes me want to shove his silly hat up his arse, the big tw*t.
Sting thinks he's Irish for some reason, but can't quite do the accent.
Elton John is actually a lot more talented than I ever gave him credit for.
Oribital rock my ****ing socks off.
Queen's Live at Wembley is the best gig evaaaaaaarrrr!!!!1!1one
Curve were great, but don't warrant a double CD "best of" album.
Peter Gabriel stuff is really hard to find on the internet, even Sledgehammer or Steam.
The Sisters of Mercy were absolute genius. :headbang:
Oh, and k.d. lang is pretty good too.

Yeah, crap albums. Actually, I thought this topic was about music. What is music if the people performing it are sellouts? If they don't stick to the principles they claim to hold? What good is someone who sings the line "learn how to love and forget how to hate" then goes and kills his pet cats? What good is a rebel-by-the-book? What does "Politicians hide themselves away, they only started the war" mean when the person who sang it hangs with those same politicians. Ozzy is the ultimate lesson in what not to become. I hope I never end up like him.

Selling out is so ****in' arbitrary, though. People said Dylan had sold out when he plugged in, and then he produced his best albums-- Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61. Lyrically, they're much less "sellout" than his gospel albums. The Clash supposedly sold out on Combat Rock, but they had Allen Ginsberg on the album. Allen Ginsberg, dude, come on-- that's the definition of not selling out. And even those who supposedly represent youth culture, like Green Day, who play enormous concerts, sell tons of merchandise, and get heavy airplay, are at least acting like they have something worth promoting. Given the lyrical content of American Idiot, I think they're right. Better to have a hundred thousand people per day hear the song "Holiday" and maybe spend some time thinking about what the idiotic Bush administration is doing than to confine your political statement to your own scene and your own friends, who probably all agree with you in the first place.

I was a rockstar in a previous life.

All up in that political grill.

One turntable and a dictophone.

Three people came to one of my gigs once. A whole three!

I fought the power and refused to let The Man get his claws into me.

Okay, I never had enough cash to cut a record and my message never got beyond next door's dog, but at least I didn't sell out.

Rock and roll!
Grrr. Argh.

I got sent a promo album of the new Thom Yorke album last week!

If the last 3 'Head albums weren't your bag, don't buy it.

But I think its pretty cool.

Electronic and samples, but plenty of nice melodies. It's no more inaccessible than, say, Amnesiac. :)

But what if one, say, liked Kid A, thought Amnesiac was brill...but Hail to the Thief was utter tosh? Will it be Amnesiac great or a mixture of all 3 in tone? Oh noes I have now been confuzzled.

re: 'Selling Out' - I know a guy who got a record deal when he was 16. Had two (indy chart) singles. Then came the choice; to Sell Out or Not To Sell Out? He chose Not Selling Out.

He spent a decade on the dole.

His Sell Out stablemates went on to become Teenage Fanclub and Primal Scream.

Kids; sell out as soon as you possibly can.
