I downloaded a copy and hated it.spiderfrommars wrote:Is the Glasvegas album worth getting?
It's not "bad" per se... it's just... I dunno. Can't quite put my finger on it. The production is just a tiny bit too perfect... it's clinical and cynical and as a result massively sterile. There's no oomph to it.
Genuinely made me want to kill myself. And not in a "zomg the lyrical content is dark and depressing" kind of way, which I can handle with no trouble. Instead it was in a "zomg this is perhaps the most joyless record I've ever heard."
It's got all the components that should make it good. On paper, I should like it. It's just executed in that "too precise" manner that strips all the verve and life out of it. Like how just being able to play all the notes in the right order at the right tempo doesn't make you a pianist, it makes you a good typist.
Science vs emotion and emotion loses.
Soulless. That's the word. Soulless.
Shame really.
Then again you'll probably love it.

Slightly off topic, but....
What do you think are the odds of serious/grungy/emotional alternative rock making a comeback? I'm talking like early 90s heyday type stuff.
Forgive me for being a bit Marxist, but it's been my observation that when the economic superstructure is f***** (like the 70s and early 90s), that's when people are into subversive and/or serious dirty music (like the Sex Pistols/Ramones and Nirvana), and when the majority of the peoples are living high on the hog (like the 80s and 00s), we get things like Hair Metal and *shudder* Nickelback or Kid Rock.
So in today's climate of "The S*** Has Officially Hit The Economic Fan," does this mean I can finally break out my plaid shirts, moan about the torture and unjustice in life, and grow my hair out? Well I'm balding, but you get the point.
In other news, Girl In A Coma is a cool band.
Has anyone heard about the new supergroup with James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins, the drummer from Cheap Trick, the bassist from Fountains of Wayne, and.........Taylor Hanson? Apparently they're going to be playing their first shows here in Austin at SXSW.

How's the new Manics been received on your side of the pond?
I've had to look it up on youtube, and I'm moderately excited - a bit better than Send Away the Tigers, so I'd say the Richie lyrics seem to make the difference.
Oh and let me say I'm jealous of the BBC, the CBC here in Canada does its best but it's still bush league compared to what you have.
