Double post! Burn the heretic!
I've got this massive stack of CDs from the library. So far I've listened to:
Arctic Monkeys (me likey--anyone got the second one and want to share?)
Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped and EVOL (RR by far the better album)
The Good, The Bad and the Queen (good stuff but what was the fuss all about?)
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (both albums make me feel like I'm breathing helium)
Band of Horses (one good song)
Morphine (yeah!)
Pretty Girls Make Graves (her voice makes me essentials go all fuzzy)
Shout Out Louds (blah)
Spoon (like the White Stripes slathered in funk sauce; fantastic band)
My Morning Jacket (some really good stuff that dips between Radiohead and Zeppelin... but his voice gets old)
Wilco (can't tell if I like them or not and it's been two or three listens)
Wolf Parade (rocks my socks)
Stereophonics (euh... Rod Stewart needs to stay unimitated)
Doves (a B album all around)
Still in the pile: Sleater-Kinney (just for Shants), Neutral Milk Hotel, the Faint, King Crimson, Sigur Ros, Mates of State and a load of old CAN and Cat Stevens albums.

Do it for me, Do it for King Mob, do it because they're from Olympia, which is just up the street from you. But most importantly, do it for youself, you beautiful nickname using bastard.Still in the pile: Sleater-Kinney (just for Shants)

No, absolutely no-one listens to bands like REM or Metallica.
Most recent gig I went to was Interpol, which was pretty good, if at a crappy venue. Edinburgh sucks so hard.
Current listens: The Twilight Sad, New Young Pony Club, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Prinzhorn Dance School. All aces.
Anyone recommend any French bands? Dirty Disco/Electro for preference, but I'm interested in whatever. Thanks!

Justice?
Air and Daft Punk should go without saying.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Lu_Cont - English I know, but born in Paris, so technically French. Though I'm sure you're familiar with him already.

Oh, come now. Some of us old timers do. They had their say back in the day. But Edinburgh cannot possibly suck as much as South Texas. When we finally got a real venue, the best they could do was Cher.
But I'll check the current listens to see if they are on iTunes in America. For some strange reason (outdated copyright law, I think) music sold in another country but not in America cannot be purchased on iTunes. Finally, someone other than Bill Gates attempting to rule the world.

My recent pick-ups
Don't Forget To Remember - Puressence (life-affirming)
Control - Goodbooks(like Bloc Party, but good).
Fantastic Playroom - New Young Pony Club (great electro-pop, but I hope they dont win the Mercury prize as I want Maps to win).
Athlete - Beyond The Neighbourhood (about 100x better than I was expecting. Less goofy than the first album but better songs than the 2nd).
Hard-Fi - Once Upon A Time In The West (pretty much the same as the first album, perhaps lacking as much heart).
Robyn - Robyn (1/2 is fantastic pop, the other half is just filler).
The new Rooney album (can't remember what it's called, but it's full of great bouncy pop songs).

I refuse to believe that REM and Metallica could be popular, I've barely heard of them. I suspect you're just making those names up...Mirrormere wrote:Oh, come now. Some of us old timers do.
There are some great bands from Texas! ...Trail of Dead, Midlake, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, At The Drive-In...although it appears they do have a fondness for peculiar names.
Justice! That's who I wanted to listen to. Thanks, Brend.
Yeah, surprised Klaxons got the Mercury. Better them than some. I think I like Fionn Reagan best out of all the noms, but most of the bands that were up for it are ones I like, for a change.

Listened to these on iTunes (with exception of Trail of Dead - could not find them) and they're...okay. I'll listen to anything once. A bit dark for my taste. The darkest I get is Within Temptation, Evanesence, and a little Disturbed or Nightwish. There are some great bands from Texas! ...Trail of Dead, Midlake, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, At The Drive-In...although it appears they do have a fondness for peculiar names.
Boy, Justice is popular! Not exactly sure why, but they seem to have a sound all their own and that is something.
I guess Wikipedia is making them up, too. Metallica has probably been around since before you were a nipper.I refuse to believe that REM and Metallica could be popular, I've barely heard of them. I suspect you're just making those names up...
You know, I prefer music where folks actually sing on pitch (like Luciano Pavarotti, *sniff* ). I like to make 'em work for it before I fork over my highly-stressified, hard-earned moolah.
"I am Grey, I stand between the candle and the star. We are Grey, we stand between the darkness and the light."
I love that big Disturbed tune with the 'wah-ah-ah-ah' bit...Down with the Sickness? The one everyone knows. I'm afraid I only really got into SOAD when all that nu-metal stuff was on the go.
Like I'm supposed to believe there'd be a band called 'Metallica'. What a name. What have they supposed to have done, popularised metal music into a cross-genre international musical superbeast that's galvanised literally millions of people for approaching 3 decades or something? Whatever. Next you'll be telling me that 'REM' are some sort of whimsical trailblazing alternative act that craft instantly hooky songs based around strong melodies and clever lyical content and that their lead singer might be kinda gay.
Tff, you've probably just wrote up wikipedia articles on those so-called bands just to continue this joke you're playing on me.Mirrormere wrote:I guess Wikipedia is making them up, too. Look out, I'm losing my religion. I WISH I wrote up ANY articles on Wikipedia. Sounds like you are a stronger writer than I am. GO FOR IT!!!
REM, you know like sleep... Only liked two SOAD songs, "Attack" and "Toxicity". I guess the only acts I am 'in' to are Tori Amos and Linkin Park. But I like a little of everything. Even c...c...Country.
