The trials of a Guild Master

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

The trials of a Guild Master

Post by Darth Aux » Tue May 23, 2006 10:19 pm

I quit being a GM on WoW today

I've started to lose interest and am fed up of the constant whispers for help (I pay to play too, some seem to forget that)

I took a bunch of guys from my guild to Lower Black Rock Spire today and Wyrm dropped the Beaststalker Mantle. As I have the whole set I passed, one of the 2 other Hunters also passed. To let me win, when she noticed I passed she had a go at me for not telling her I had the whole set already and Hunter number 3 won them. I mean couldn't she see the Huge Horned shoulder pads I had on??

Basically, I'm having to watch every roll and every pull in every instance and it's got too much, so I quit and tbh WoW is boring me lately.

More important things to do like finding a job.

So u might see more of me here again.

What's new in the world of TF?

Beast Wars. And it's glorious. Plus toys of some of the War Within-characters. :)

I think you're going to have to decide on what sig to use for the moment tho, I don't think the mods like that you're using two. A pair of 40kb sigs takes up the same bandwidth as an 80kb sig, and 80kb aint allowed. :( ;)

Preds is right, on this.

Although not explicitly stated in the current signature rules, it does show some fair play to not have a signature that, when fully visible on a screen, leaves little space for the actual posting.

Your total signature, btw, weighs in at a little over 600x460, which is vast on even a 1024x768 resolution.

Oh yeah. Welcome back, post more, and good hunting. ;)

I was GM in Ultima Online for about 2 years, and 2nd in our command structure for another 2 years. and was a lowly scribe for another year.

All swings and roundabouts to be honest - I cant see what there is to do tho in WoW as a gm except take parties on raids. in UO we had to tech ppl things, raids was about 10% of our time.

I guess the loss of a guild is always hard as they are like losing friends.

When I lost my guild I lost UO, I find with MMO's that a good group of mates really makes the game more then just a game.

thats the point I was hoping youd get to :) yes its very hard soemtimes. In fact Im in the middle of a war with another guild leader who dicked me out of my guild. We merged with them and then he promptly started a "hes a bad guy" campaign against me then booted me WHILE I WAS OFFLINE. chicken s*** bastard

ugh god [composite word including 'f*ck'] that man, ive seen guilds operate like that it seems very immature.

We never booted anyone unless they had done somthing total mental. one such situation was borrowing alot of guild money to buy a house (a very rare thing in UO terms) and then promptly declaring he forgot where it was... yeah right...
Took me two months using a tracker to find him in an alternate world... couldnt get the house back tho :(

Back in the day of my first raiding guild in WoW I became an officer; our GM was fairly aloof [he was more concerned with having a gorgeous website and perfect DKP listing than running the guild] so running the show often fell onto the officers shoulders.

In a nutshell, that experience killed the guild for me. Of course, the lack of progression due to lots of bads and the GM being a total tool and occasionally coming to try and rule with an iron first didn't help either.. right after our first Nef kill [November, long before AQ opened ;)] I peaced from that guild in a fairly e-violent manner, since the GM decided my leaving was unacceptable and it became a "make dave look like a POS" week in the guild/realm forums/general chat. Nevertheless, I had invites from all the top guilds on the server, yadda yadda..

picked up, PvP'd to rank 13 and killed lots of raid bosses as a 'lowly' member and actually enjoyed the game for a while. then it got boring and i became $750 richer.

Myself and one of my RL friends were just promoted to Co-GMs.

Three weeks later I get an email were a guildmember has attacked not only our guild but the alliance we are with totally unprovoked and on some guilds recruitment page. Now i gotta deal with a stupid soon to be ex guildmember and a group of pissed off alliance GM's.

This was nowhere in the fine print when i agreed to the title.

Yeah, its getting to that, but his Dad is also in our guild and a hellova priest. So im tryin not to lose him as well. Its mostly damage control now, but just needless drama i dont want to deal with.
