Bad week at work?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Bad week at work?
Actually, yes, ******* awful.

Will be applying for another job this week as a result.

I don't think there is a demotivator that could sum up the level of truly ******* stupid **** that is going down at my work.

Yes do tell, Kingmob. This seems quite interesting actually. :!:

Does the problem revolve around some part of management mayhaps? ;)

Actually, you can't go too far wrong with that! Every team leader and manager at my place displays the people-skills and leadership of David Brent.

Thats the 'new school'. For the old school bosses, just watch Alan Sugar on The Apprentice, and there you have british bosses.

We've got a guy on our team whom everyone dislikes because he's just constantly rude and confrontational to the point of physically shoving people about, and is always complaining about everything to try and get things altered to suit his way, a real stab-in-the-back guy. There's a bunch of reasons why people don't like him, and it's been like that for months.
Everyone else on the team avoids him, and at least two of us have cleared not working alongside him with the manager - who also can't stand him and whom he made a complaint about to the senior manager.
Unfortunately, no-one has ever complained about this guy properly, and he's been getting more and more outrageous in his grabs at power on the shift...from little things to bigger things.

So we got a new manager in for a couple of days last week to cover, and the aggressive complainy guy no-one likes went to him and accused everyone of discriminating against him as no-one wants to work alongside him, people take their break away from him etc. So the whole team got a bollocking, no investigation or anything, from senior management on the word of this ****. If it doesn't stop we all get taken to the disciplinary board etc. Which is a joke as the reason people dislike this guy is because he's a bully and makes work horrible for other people.

So everyone's now really pissed off and going to senior management to see WTF is going on. Thing is, it should be clear-cut in our favor - there's like 5 of us who all have problems with the guy, plus the manager has on-the-record issues with him as well, *plus* he got moved from another team for dodgily rumoured reasons...but our team has a rep for pissing about, and the troubles that, annoyingly, this guy has caused in his quest to complain about everything, mean that the two members of management who we need to go see are not as well-disposed to us as they could be, *plus* this guy has been sucking up like you would not believe.

So yeah. Everyone feels miserable and angry at the same time and isn't sure how this is going to go. One guy's stuck his resignation in already and the rest of us are thinking about it. Work's just been getting worse and worse because of the troublesome guy and hey, here's an accusation of discrimination to top everything off.

Apols for venting.

Don't worry. Sounds like you needed it. :)

Not that I'm one to give advice on how to manage people, but;
I suppose you have to play this guy at his own game. Bullies tend to thrive in managment regimes that pay lip-service to 'dignity at work', exactly because they can be arsed to go through official greivance procedures and put stuff on record.

Most people try to sort issues out themselves first. However, if this guy doesn't care that everyone hates him already, them he just gonna resort to using the system more. You have to get your own grievences offically recognised, I suppose.

I'll shut up before I start telling grandma how to suck eggs.. ;) :D
