If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Yah, that was brilliant. :D

And almost prophetic since Lucasarts has hinted at a Wii-exclusive Star Wars title that, lo and behold, will focus on the noblest of all high arts, lightsaber-fighting. :)

I will destroy you with my holy arrows Laser Rod! :twisted:

Ah.. who am I kidding? I'll probably end up playing as Zero Suit Samus all the time. ^^

And could this coming of Pit, the Kid Icarus signal a new rising of a solo-game for the lad?? It certainly did so for Samus!

HERE'S THE PRICE!

Post by Predabot » Thu May 25, 2006 3:08 pm

The price-point for a Nintendo Wii has been announced!
REDMOND, Wash., May 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Following its
overwhelming debut at E3 2006, Nintendo today announced the current fiscal
year unit shipment forecast for its new home game system, Wii(TM). Nintendo
also confirmed that the price of the Wii system, which incorporates unique
freehand control, will not exceed $250 in America, or 25,000 yen in Japan. The
company plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between
its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on
March 31, 2007.
And here's a few quick conversions so you can have a look at possible prices where YOU live. :) Good thanks to the posting lad Maximus_XCV on the Gamespot forums.
Equivalent in global currencies, @ 09:14 GMT Thursday May 25 2006.

¥ 25 000 JP Japan
$ 222.33 US United States
Є 173.82 EU Europe

$ 247.64 CA Canada
£ 118.76 UK England
$ 293.84 AU Australia

If nintendo decided to be generous you could expect to pay:

¥ 23 000 JP Japan
$ 199.95 US United States
Є 159.95 EU Europe

$ 219.95 CA Canada
£ 104.95 UK England
$ 279.95 AU Australia

Under normal circumstances you could expect to pay:

¥ 24 000 JP Japan
$ 219.95 US United States
Є 179.95 EU Europe

$ 269.95 CA Canada
£ 129.95 UK England
$ 299.95 AU Australia
What do you think? the price seems bloody great to me! Surely the Impy will be getting it just for the heck of trying it with such a low price?

Normally a $250 price tag would translate to £250 in the UK.

I expect the machine to be around £180. I will be surprised and pleased if it is any less.

Well Hound, if you picked up the Daily Star recently, you will notice that they've goot a 'scoop' saying it will be less, 170£ to be accurate. :o

I'm hoping they're wrong and that it goes for something more along the lines of 166£. That would be absolutely lovely for an unemployed man like me.
Despite official confirmation from Nintendo, The Daily Star have nonchalantly revealed the price and launch date of Wii.The article, which reads as a factual based piece on Wii and its functions, states that the next-gen console will retail at £170.00 and the launch date will be the end of November.

All recent indications point to the fact that Wii will be released before the November 11th Japanese PS3 launch date and Nintendo of America have said that the official announcement will not be until September.

Well Predabot, I would never dream of picking up the Daily Star, as it is a dirty cum rag of a newspaper.

£170 is a good price. If the 360 gets its anticipated price drop it wont look so attractive though.

i guess the wii is going to be attracting a different type of gamer...because if the 360 does get a price drop and have a good back cat of games by then, wii wont be as attractive.

If it was launched at under £150, it would be virtually impulse purchase price, no matter how much the competition was priced at.

Dirty cum rag, eh? Hmmm...do you think they have subscriptions?

I think the first post here will be TRUTH. I have a 360 right now. But all the games so far are underwhelming to say the least. I'm basically playing Ninja Gaiden Black (which is the best action game in the history of the world, btw).

Nintendo has BUZZ. Joe Everybody who sees someone else playing Wii will want to themselves. And, like you say, it's an impulse buy.

I mean, just think of the situation right now. You've got a low priced Nintendo that will give you a unique and revolutionary gameplay experince. You've got a moderately priced 360 with a great library of games (at that point). And you've got a $700 "multimedia center" PS3 with a handful of $60-70 games.

DIE DIE DIE SONY!!!
LONG LIVE NINTENDO

I dont agree with that - there is quite alot of talk right now of Ninty having to show more tradtional games because not everyone wants to play these highly active games.

360 games are gathering pace, and there are only a few titles that im enjoying right now but there are many on the way as the 2nd gen come along.

Personaly I see wii and 360 as different markets, the 360 offers things in different places to wii and vice versa - whilst Sony will not fail its interesting to see that a company that set the pace in the last 2 generations looks like its out of ideas, they seem to be trying to copy everything whilst MS and big N just did what they thought was right.

Theres some hot stuff comming to both machines that will find thier place in my collections - cant wait for Gears of War tho, that looks proper next gen...

Well, of course I think the games are going to get better for the 360. I would be a certifiable retard if I bought a system that I thought wouldn't have any good games.

But I think you're going to be dead wrong about the wii. It's going to be ubiquitous. The iPod of video games. *salivates over that day and shoving it in Impy's face*

Those people who don't want to play "highly active" games that involve slightly moving your hand around are either

a) highly obese
b) will have a normal controller setup option in the options
or c) will be gorging on all the NES, SNES, N64, TG16, Genesis, etc. games they can stomach. There will be a whole different demographic that will buy the Wii just for this.

It will never be the ipod of Video-gamming. for that to happen it would have to outsell MS and Sony and thats just not going to happen, even Ninty know that. Basic marketing wont allow it.

As for the movement thing - its a serious concern, and its a serious issue, alot of gamers in Japan are concerned that whilst wii is a small unit and thats good for them - moving around your room to play tennis or somthing isnt going to be possible in thier small homes.
Also recently gamers who have been play testing the new Mario Galaxy and Zelda have complained that within 20 mins thier wrists were utterly killing them, playing longer then that (which is common) is already becomining clear thats its not possible.

Normall controller setups are just not possible - u cant take motion controll to the d-pad.

Why you want to shove it in my face is beyond me - ive owened pretty much ever console on earth, and my Ninty machines have always been in my home as will wii.

People will always like to play games with amazing graphics on a 360 or a PS3 and will always enjoy playing them with standard controllers.
wii is a different console and will have a different market.

Im sure it will sell well, anything would be better then the GC but there is no way on earth, that it will be the No.1 console 5 years from now.

And, more importantly rumors persist that MS and Sony are both readying 'wii wands' that will work just like wii, and I wouldnt doubt that either.
If that does happen, cross platform games with better graphics and better controll* will start to appear... can u honestly tell me that MS and Sony are not considering it? hard not to isnt it.

* better controll because the 3D tracking of the wii takes alot of power, the 360 and PS3 could work at higher resoloutions then wii.
