Did a certain Time Manager prevent the Emperor of Great Britain from falling foul to a Vampire a hundred odd years earlier, or something, then?

A parallel universe that is quite similar must have had, mainly, the same experiences. So its more than likely that he did - or a virtually exact parallel Doctor did!Best First wrote:i don't see why not.Rebis wrote:True, but on a parallel Earth?Best First wrote:Doesn't Torchwood get mentioned at every available opportunity?

This could end up like one of those Galvatron discussions, couldn't it? They always make my brain hurt

Am I the only person praying to all major religions simultaneously that Rose's 'muvva' gets converted in the most gruesome way possible? Rose can be added to that list if I have to endure another minute of her family on screen... I wouldn't mind if I felt it were going anywhere new, but I do get tired of Jackie's endless (and repetitive...) appearances. Next to Cassandra she has to be one of the most single dimensional characters in the series, yet is given massively over-generous screen time which I'd rather see devoted to other characters {cough}MICKEY!!{cough}
Honestly, it's taken about 15x 45 minutes episodes to give the guy anything beyond 'cowardly boyfriend who sometimes tags along on Earth-bound adventures'.
Speaking of which, any chance of that time-and-space ship actually going to another planet anytime soon? Space stations and a carbon-copy of the Earth don't really cut the mustard... it's not the same unless it's in a quarry...
Anyway, Jackie-hating aside, very enjoyable episode. John Lumic, whilst being a bit of a two dimensional megalomaniac/God wannabe, was fiercedly watchable. Mainly because he looked like Trigger but sounded like Christopher Lee. The Cybermen were excellent, although their hob-nailed boots did look a bit Viz/Beano.
What's the betting though that the cliffhanger will be resolved in true Doctor Who fashion with something like "Oh, change in orders..." / "This is John Lumic: I want them ALIVE!" / "Go to your room!" etc.?
The cliffhangers have always seemed to be set up to be resolved in the most suprisingly trivial ways possible... i.e. episode ends with the Doctor hanging over a cliff! Ah, noes!! Next episode starts with... him clambering back up again.

To add my 2p's worth:
If this is a parallel universe, but one where Rose is never born, wouldn't that suggest that this universe's Doctor falied to defeat the reconstituted Daleks in the future? And since the Queen Victoria thing wouldn't happen because chronologically (from the Doctor's POV) it happens after he faces off against the Daleks (and presumably loses, with no super-powered Rose to help him) then Torchwood wouldn't exist. Or maybe it's one of those parallel universe thingies, like Torchwood has a different origin but is still essentially the same institution...
...bah, head beginning to hurt now...
...but the point remains that without Rose, the Doctor would be dead and this universe should be knee-deep in Daleks, right?

No, you're not. I'd happily feed her into the Cybermachine myself.Karl Lynch wrote:Am I the only person praying to all major religions simultaneously that Rose's 'muvva' gets converted in the most gruesome way possible?

I would've thought there wouldn't be a parallel Doctor as he is a Time Lord.
Torchwood didn't get mentioned in The Girl In The Fireplace (my fave season 2 episode so far).
Karl - They're gonna visit an alien planet in....
(possible spoiler?)

He moves in time, sure, but he doesn't cross dimensions...his Tardis is definitely from *our* universe, and if this is a proper parallel universe I would have thought that there would be a Doctor there too. If there wasn't, wouldn't the Sontarans or someone have taken over the Earth by now?spiderfrommars wrote:I would've thought there wouldn't be a parallel Doctor as he is a Time Lord.

Judging by the lack of a time Vortex in this parallel universe, it is possible that either the Rasillon never created the Eye of Harmony and therefore the web of time or he did and there was a TimeWar in that universe that was even more disasterous than in ours, resulting in the destruction of said vortex...Metal Vendetta wrote: He moves in time, sure, but he doesn't cross dimensions...his Tardis is definitely from *our* universe
poor old Cybes... there never were strong in the catchphrase department... what with "You will be like us","resistance is futile","we will survive" (pretty much all ripped off by the Borg in more recent years) and "excellent!" (:() they were in a weak position to start off with...Best First wrote: so far i think the Daleks are winning on catchphrases...

'Earthshock'
And there's a fun appearance in 'The Five Doctors'
Sadly a lot of 60s Cybermen episodes are lost.

Yeah, i'd say those are probably the best Cyber stories.spiderfrommars wrote:'Tomb of the Cybermen'Best First wrote:

I never saw "Attack" first time round, and when i got around to watching it on UKGold, i was so hoping it was going to kick arse (what with Lytton returning, Mondas and the events of Tenth Planet, not to mention Cybermen in the sewers like Invasion)... unfortunately a piss poor script let it down miserably. It's only saving grace is Peri bouncing down the road in that pink leotard...
Silver Nemesis, fairly good basic concept, crap everything else really...
Revenge of the Cybermen... ouch, that was real budget saving story wasn't it?
Yeah, i wish Tenth Planet and Moonbase were complete!spiderfrommars wrote:Sadly a lot of 60s Cybermen episodes are lost.

"Resistance is futile" is a great catchphrase as long as it's done in an English accent - meaning it should be pronounced "PHEW-TILE" and not the Americanised "footle" you get on Star Trek from those Borg who weren't Shakespearian actors in a former life.

Ahhh, but what if the Cybermen deployed their "Megatron" bombs against him, hmmm?

The Cybermen hace lots of great catchphrases:
Maximun Power! [Best done with a clenched fist for full effect]
A-HA! I have found the ones from the Tardis!
Excellent!
Stupid Earth brains!
So Doctor, you have regenerated!
Promises to Aliens have no validity!

yeah - it was intereesting to watch Davison and compare notes to the more modern Doctors, plus i liked how layered the plot was, although it seems a bit cheap in some ways thatspiderfrommars wrote:Didya like it?
Androzani and the new Cybermen episodes are by the same director.
SPOILERS
everyone dies at the end, in some ways the tone would have been darker if someone had profitted or been left to pick up the pieces. The Lava beast was a big waste of time as well. On the other hand the regeneration was excellent (nice Master cameo) as was the dark edge they applied to it with Baker essentially seeming to reject his former incarnation with his opening lines and the ominous 'feels different this time' comment from Davison as he passed. Made me want to watch the next one.
Just got Pyramids of mars to go now.
