Teacher Fired For Making Porn Movie 11 Years Ago

REIDLAND, Ky. -- A western Kentucky high school teacher fired for being in an adult movie several years ago said she has since turned her life around.

Tericka Dye had taught science at Reidland High School for the last two years. She was also a volleyball coach. But school officials recently learned that she participated in an adult film made 11 years ago when Dye was 23.

Schools Superintendent Tim Heller said he decided to fire Dye because her presence in the classroom would be a distraction. Her pay was also suspended for the rest of the school year.

Dye said she made the film while struggling to make ends meet. She said she was homeless and also coping with untreated and undiagnosed bipolar disorder. She said she joined the Army shortly after and then put herself through school.

Several students held a rally in support of Dye near the school Wednesday. One parent at the rally, Bonnie Chilcoat, said Dye was a great teacher who's done a great job with her students.

Wow, great job turning your life around. Unfortunately, you showed your naughty bits in a movie a decade before you started teaching so back to the street you go! What a shock, it's a school in the south...

Mmm. Those involved don't want people to learn and grown, remember -- forgiveness is strictly lip service, and 'examples' apparently more useful than trained staff in a time of falling literacy.

I can't even imagine the kind of money she could make off suing for wrongful termination. The fired her for something that did not impact her job in any way, something that isn't illegal, they all-but ruined her reputation by making this public, etc. If she wanted to sue, I have to assume that she could get millions easily.

also i believe that making adult entertainment is, you know, entirely legal in the USA, so essentially she has been fired because some people didn't like what she used to do. On that basis you coudl fire eatcher as they used to be an estate agent and we all know estate agensts are c***s.

Blatently out of context.

I'm talking not of the odd comment or wisecrack but in those cases where an entire class isn't remotely under the control of a teacher. They run riot, destroy stuff and disrupt several other lessons. It borders on that Simpsons episode in which Skinner was fired. There are teachers who are compromised and are unfortuantly unable to teach or control a class.

I've seen a few teachers (Mostly supply and the odd trannie) who have no hold over a class and literally no work or learning is done and behaviour declines (Making it harder ont he rest of us). I feel ashamed when I have to walk in from my own lesson and get order in their room because kids literally can't hear me because of next door.

That's why I dread supple and dread long term suppoly because there is a chance of getting somebody who shold actually be banned from ever being responsible to children. It happens. At that point the teacher is technically incompetent and the school has to make a decision-th consequences of which can have a serious impact on a whole group of childrens future. In those circumstances there is very little choice and in Science, teach and P.E. the responsibility of the teacher is greater due to the increased possibility of an accident to a child. Nobody except those in the school know the full set of circumstances behind the situation. Certainly not you.

So get off your high horse. I made it clear given the information presented I was against her sacking, I see you edited that out of the quote. After that I was simply considering what the full story could be. That article was rather lacking on detail and first hand accounts.
Heck it doesn't even make any atempt to get a quote or a "No comment form the school. That's hardly getting to the bottom of the full story.

Given that lack quality reporting in the article, I am also aware in 90% of teacher dismissals it's generally the last in a line of malpractice or incompetance. I'm sure the School is very releutant to advertise this because parents are pretty quick to slaughter the whole school for being a poor school-even if it is only a isolated member of staff and blame all their child related woes on the school or give them bad press making the Headmasters and staffs job more difficult.

Our year group pushed our German teacher into a nervous breakdown. There are certainly staff who can't command enough basic respect to teach anything, even in cases where senior management have been supportive and backed them up.

Back in High School, there was a substitute teacher that had been in a porno movie when she was in her late teens. A couple of the kids teased her about it, but it didn't get her fired. Why? Because it's nobody's concern what legal activities you took part in before you were hired.
