Ipod question

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Simple answer: In theory, yes.

More complicated answer: Well, you'll have to find out what sort of jacks/sockets your hi-fi unit takes, and then find a cable (or cables plus adapters) that can connect a stereo mini-jack to whatever the hi-fi unit needs.

^^ This site seems to specialise in that sort of thing.

You can pretty much connect an iPood to just about anything. Just need the right hookups, might take a little rewireing as well.

3? You sure about that?

3 usually means AV which are colour-coded White, Red and Yellow (Left Audio, Right Audio and Composite Video, respectively), the other end would have 3 insulators instead of 2 (the number of non-metal stripes on the jack) and its not for headphones sockets, even though it is the right size.

If that's what you've found, then what you need is something that looks the same, but only has 2 male plugs on it (Red and White).

If not, then the third plug is a new one on me.

[edit]

Saw this, am assuming it's what you saw. Apple say it's ok to connect to hi-fi and headphones socket, but it also shows the types of ipod that it's compatible with and the nano isn't there.

[edit #2]

Now, this is more about what you're after: 3.5mm jack at one end, 2 RCA Phono plugs at the other, designed for nano amongst others.

[edit #3]

Or there's this. Not made by Apple, but it's more visually colour-coded, only slightly shorter and a fair bit cheaper too.

It is possible to get this kind of cable from almost anywhere that sells electrical equipment, not just hi-fi stores, I got some cabling from Sainsbury's a few years back.

No probs.

About a decade ago, I used to frequent my local Tandy* for bits'n'bobs and accummulated a varied amount of different cables and adapters.

There was a point when I could literally connect anything to anything else. But didn't, cos the voltages would fry stuff/me/etc. ;)

I used to love Tandys shops, they were ace and are now sadly missed. The nearest there is i can find today is Maplins, but it doesn't quite seem the same.
