If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

yeah Irish day im told by my Irish GF is about some dude who ran all the snakes out of Ireland.

lets check.

Killed a Dragon.
Told snakes to leave Ireland.

Now, call me presumptious, But I think killing a Dragon is far more hardcore then telling some snakes to sod off, i mean he didnt even kill them he just told them to leave and stuff.

I want a day of for St Georges day, it ****s me off that this country cant celebrate its own sodding tradtions anymore due to PC.

Well I've got a fair bit of irish heritage and I was born in england, so I always celebrate both. No days off but two good excuses for a piss up.

Just recently our lot up here tried to get us St. Andrews Day as a holiday, but it got knocked back in the end as it was felt that we couldn't afford to lose a day's work for it.
Perhaps an attempt for St George's Day would reach a similar end?

Regardless, best of the day to everyone heading out tonight. :)

IIRC, there are shreds of evidence St Patrick existed. George pretty categorically didn't.

think its a bit strange.

He was pretty thorough though, he not only got all the snakes to leave but he also removed any archaeological evidence that there ever were any snakes in Ireland. Not a bad afternoon's work, that.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Not from what I read. I read somewhere about George being some turkish bloke. A soldier or somesuch, forget the details but I'm sure you could google it if you care.

Did St. Patrick get rid of the snakes (and evidence of) by putting them on a plane?

There's something about St Patrick that I don't get.

It's not that he was Welsh.

It's not that he convinced all the snakes to leave Ireland.

It's not even that he struck a deal with all the snakes to go to Ireland in the first place so he could then appear to be convincing them to leave.

It's this - What did the snakes get out of it?
