Comic storage

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Comic storage

Post by Scraplet » Wed Mar 15, 2006 9:58 pm

I'm moving house soon and my good lady wife has forbidden me to store all my comics under the bed at the new house (she wants a "grown up bedroom"  )

So, short of taking-over one of my kids rooms or giving-up keeping my clothes in a wardrobe, the only place I have to store them is the loft.

Its a clean, boarded out loft, but its still gonna be prone to the climatic variation of an English loft.

Is that really bad for comics?

Is there any way to store then that will minimise the impact?

I was thinking that the polybags might cause condensation to form and make 'em rot. But, newspaper that you use for packing stuff always seems to survive in a loft, so should I take them all out of their polybags?

Anyone know??

I don't know for sure on a technical level, but I stored a couple thousand old comics up a loft for about 7 or 8 years with no ill-effects to the comics - got them out of storage a month or so ago, no probs to either the US ones or the old bogroll paper UK ones.
Just in cardboard boxes really, really well taped sealed.
None of them were bagged+boarded.

I'm sure I read somewhere that bagging comics can actually damage them in the end, but I think that might have been something to do with them being hit by sunlight or something.

Fair enough - that makes me feel better. Cheers mate.

It's the "bog-roll paper" ( ) UK ones I was most worried about.

Ta!

Cool, hope you get everything stored safely.

Was reading some of those old bogroll comics today - old 2000ADs etc - and they do have a mild musty smell now.
But I think I kinda like that. :)

Yeah, mine are all yellow and feel like ancient parchment.

And my comics are a bit odd too.....

 I'll get me coat.
