Its so close now I... true next gen gamming in the form of the super duper RPG Oblivion on Xbox 360.
I havent followed a game like this for along time, but its so freaking amazing im wetting myself and planning time away from the real world in order to play.
Look at this
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/702/70249 ... 42822.html
If thats not good, get new eyes (and before anyone asks, all reports are it plays aswell as it ever did in its 3 previous versions.)

Im not sure when u stop calling the X360 next-gen to be honest, perhaps when PS3 and Rev turn up, then they can all be considered 'Current-gen'
Either way, we havnt seen anything this detailed, and its a true glimpse of what 'next-gen' gamming offers us - you should watch movies, all the foliage moves in the wind... its amazing, real-time soft shadows, animals, birds insects, not to mention, cities full of ppl who interact pass rumors etc...

its good to note that this version of eldar scrolls is just as open as before but they have a few quests that really lead the hand for ppl who like that sort of thing in thier RPG's - so they have learnt and its best of both worlds now - according to reports on ppl who have played it, IGN, game spot etc...

Yeah the graphics are amazing and I would have to seriously upgrade my pc to get this game working. Mind you its about time anyway as lots of new release games are straining the edges of what my PC can run as it stands. Dark Messiah of Might & Magic looks nifty too, pity its only a single person, not the party system, which that series was always famed for.

The really irritating thing is that Morrowind and Oblivion were both originally thought to be MMO's and never turned out that way. Id STILL be playing Morrowind if I could play with others.
Daggerfall and Arena obviously wouldnt have been nearly as good this way.

I belive that co-op might be patched into the game, the problem is, how do get around one player being able to sleep for X number of hours - or how do allow players to 'fast travel' etc...
Its tought to balance - ES is a very single player experience to be honest, theres so much to do you spend ages just exploring things yourself of fiddling.
I think it would be fun to fight battles and stuff in co-op but 75% of the time i think ppl are just exploring.

ES has always been single player to be honest - In a perfect world it would be an MMO because its background is now deep and detailed.
I was lucky enough to play it a bit this wekend, on a X360 its all class- sure it has the odd load bug and stuff but its a beautifull world full of detail and polish.
You could lose alot of time in this world, just generaly staring out across its wonderfull vistas.

I've picked up Morrowind a few times but never stayed with it enough to get anything done. Mostly because I just do what Impy said. (Yes, in morrowind)
However, while at a friend's house the other day setting up his network connection on a new rig of his he booted up his 360 right next to me and he had Oblivion in it. He was trying to join the thief guild from what I could tell, and had already pissed off the town gaurd apparently. While jumping around and dodging like a money, he was going thru random doors trying to escape. After opening one door and loading the next area his face dropped, he looked at me and said "Did that say barracks?"
Before I could answer, we both get our attention brought back to the game when we hear about 15+ warcries from the small army of gaurds he had just barged in on.
That was wednesday. Yesterday I ran across him at work and waited till he walked by and asked him "Did that say barracks?"
He could only facepalm himself as the memories of a swift death returned to him.

I've been playing the game the whole weekend, and I love it.
I have barely touched the main story (the last thing I did yesterday was to close the first Oblivion gate) - still I have managed to cram in like 15 - 20 house of gameplay.
But (this isn't a stab at Oblivion, it's just a general stab at every game in the universe) I am getting sick and tired of venturing around in dark caves, or dark castles, or dark houses, or dark basements, or dark <insert random word>. Blegh

Same here mate, when i wasn't out drinking my wages i was at home playing this! It is awesome and no mistake! (I spent a good while just staning on a bridge watching the rain hit the river below me, fantastic!).
The darkness of the game (in places) was annoying too, until i turned the ingame brightness up a notch, then it was much more enjoyable (still have to use the torches tho, don't want to ruin the atmos!). The thing that's annoying me the most is trying to track down individuals in towns/cities, i mean they just wander about doing their own thing and it's nigh on impossible to track down someone you need to find for a sub-quest! bah!
Not done too much of the main story myself, have rescued what's his name the priest and am meant to be taking him to safety, but have decided to do an unscheduled tour of all the towns instead! and have just escaped from a painting!
wicked stuff! was a little let down my the lack of dialogue options with people, i was hoping to be able to choose my dialogue (ala KOTOR et al) but that doesn't seem to work like that in this game. Still, the whole disposition thing is a neat little twist... spent a good couple of hours getting the whole of the Imperial city to love me!

I think when you have a game more open then say KOTOR its hard to include individual dialouge options.
On the weekend I too closed the first Ob gate, after playing for along time doing my own thing - somthing I loved was a quest where I was sucked inside a painting - had to kill some tough trolls, but more groovy was that the whole world was rendered like a painting (some sort of photoshop filter in realtime)
I enjoy the game, not mch to grumble about, it is dark I suppose but it does add atmosphere.

Oooh sweet
I also like the "disposition" thingy. I use it on everyone I talk to.
During my "world tour" this weekend I managed to get kidnapped by pirates. And after that I got turned in to a friggin vampire.
Really sweet adventures that I didn't have planned at all.
Only one thing can top that: pirate vampires.
What kind of a guy are you in the game?
Everybody loves me, and I always do the heroic thing when I get the option ("You can either sell the magical super item for big money to the thief - or you can return it to it's real owner").
But at night I turn in to a simple thief I steel all my equipment, weapons and potions.
